On 15 October 2006, Vicky Leandros was elected town councillor of the Greek harbor town of Piraeus on the Pasok list. Her task concerned the Cultural and International development of Piraeus. She also served as Deputy Mayor of Piraeus. It was announced in June 2008 that Leandros decided to leave her position in Greek politics with immediate effect, stating that she had underestimated the workload and time needed to fulfill her political obligations and that it had become impossible to combine those duties with her singing career.

I remember the amazing Vicky on the 1967 Eurovision. The song was so amazing we all thought ( to our horror ) she had beaten our own Sandy Shaw ( puppet on a string). Vicky's was the better song and the following day my sister , who worked in a record shop, was inundated with customers asking for " Love is Blue".She finally won in 1972. What an amazing lady.
