From an early age Roel kept himself busy with finding new sounds and creating music. As GOSTO he and his live band melt the worlds of acoustic and electronic music together into one dubby trip-hop sound; raw, dark but still colourful.
Inspired by traveling, chaos and love as well as artists such as Flying Lotus, James Blake, Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley, GOSTO balances between fragile melodies and electronic extravaganza. In his song writing, he thrives to let you experience the thin line between simplicity and complexity. GOSTO takes you to places that you seem to recognize, but not yet have been before.
Roel’s band exists out of musicians how create a tight sound, despite of their totally different background. These four virtuosos have the ability play a ground shaking energetic but still very controlled live-show. Expect thrilling melodies, catchy vocals and deep, deep synths.
In June 2014, GOSTO released his debut EP (premiered on Noisey) and was amongst others support act for How to Dress Well.
GOSTO can be seen at several festivals and at different clubs.
GOSTO band:
Roel Vermeer: Vocals, synths & samples
Mats Voshol: Drums

The Kid
gosto Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A feather not afraid to fall
Used to be, so quick on my feet
Till it slowed down, and the bottom dropped
No more time for memories
No more time for apologies
Wish I could follow the course of the clock
Going round and round and never stop
The kid that I once was
Was
The time that I still got
Got
The kid that I once was
Was
When did we loose touch
The world is looking serious
And maybe less mysterious
Close the eyes and look at what we’ve become
A kid with some experience
The past is weighing heavier
My hair is growing pale
Keep on going back in time
Till I find the life that we inhale
Stop
The kid that I once was
Was
The time that I still got
Got
The kid that I once was
Was
When did we loose touch
In these lyrics, the singer reflects on their past and looks for the innocence and carefree nature of childhood that seems to have been lost along the way. The search for the "child in me" symbolizes a longing to reconnect with a simpler time when they were unburdened by the worries and responsibilities of adulthood. The reference to a feather not afraid to fall suggests a sense of vulnerability and a willingness to take risks, qualities often associated with youth.
The mention of being "quick on my feet" in the past indicates a time of agility and quick thinking, possibly during the carefree days of youth. However, as life progresses and responsibilities pile up, the singer feels like they have slowed down, and the feeling of falling or hitting rock bottom has set in. This introspective journey leads them to lament that there is no more time for memories and apologies, highlighting a sense of regret and a desire to turn back the clock.
The repetition of phrases like "The kid that I once was" and "The time that I still got" emphasizes the theme of nostalgia and a yearning for a time that has passed. The singer questions when they lost touch with their childhood innocence and spontaneity, as they observe the world becoming more serious and less mysterious. This contrast between the present reality and the past idealized version of themselves creates a sense of longing and reflection on personal growth.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of aging and the weight of past experiences shaping the present. The mention of hair growing pale and the past weighing heavier symbolizes the passage of time and the accumulation of memories and regrets. Despite these reflections, there is a sense of resilience in the desire to keep going back in time to rediscover the essence of life that was once breathed in fully. Overall, the song captures a poignant moment of introspection and nostalgia, urging listeners to reflect on their own journey from childhood to adulthood.
