Wie Weit
Marta Jandová Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So monoton und still
Und zeichnet dabei einen Kreis
Kreis der Ewigkeit
Ich kann dem Gefühl nicht entgehen
Ich sei ein dauerhafter Gast.
Das Gold dieser Welt
Ist nichts wert.
Verbrennt meine Haut.
Wie weit muss ich gehen
Um zu sehen
Dass die Nacht ein Ende sucht
Wie viel muss ich geben
Um zu fühlen?
Bin ich denn verflucht?
Will ich wagen
Ist es gut
Oder bin ich doch verflucht?
Why am I sad?
Why am I sad?
When I have more than I ever had?
Mein Leben ist einsam
Ich bin zu schwach, um aufzustehen
Gestreckt auf dem Boden, wie gelähmt
Der Himmel ist zu schwer
Meine eigenen Regeln sind mein Feind
Wie die Trägheit in mir
Und etwas zu ändern ist so schwer
Ein Krieg den ich verlier
Wie weit muss ich gehen
Um zu sehen
Dass die Nacht ein Ende sucht
Wie viel muss ich geben
Um zu fühlen?
Bin ich denn verflucht?
Wie groß ist die Sehnsucht,
die mich treibt - verlier ich meinen Mut?
Soll ich mich ergeben oder leben?
Das Leben nach der Flut
Will ich wagen
Ist es gut
Oder bin ich doch verflucht?
The lyrics of Marta Jandová's song "Wie Weit" describe the feelings of loneliness, stagnation, and the struggle to make meaningful changes in one's life. The opening lines paint a bleak picture of a life that revolves in a monotonous, circular motion, symbolized by the "circle of eternity" that is drawn. The singer feels helpless and trapped, like a permanent guest in a life that does not offer true value or meaning. The metaphor of "the gold of this world" being worthless and burning the skin suggests material possessions and worldly success do not provide lasting happiness.
The chorus of the song questions how much effort is needed to escape the darkness and find purpose. The singer is searching for meaning and understanding, wondering if they are cursed or doomed to wander aimlessly. The line "why am I sad when I have more than I ever had?" represents the confusion and guilt that comes with feeling unsatisfied despite having all the opportunities and resources to be content.
The second verse describes a sense of physical and emotional paralysis, with the weight of the sky symbolizing the overwhelming burden of trying to change. The singer recognizes that their own rules and habits are obstacles to progress, but even wanting to change is a difficult and exhausting challenge. The bridge intensifies the internal conflict, recognizing the desire to live freely, but also the fear of taking a risk and potentially failing.
Overall, the lyrics of "Wie Weit" express a deep sense of existential crisis and the desire to find purpose and meaning in life, despite the barrier of one's own limitations and the fear of the unknown.
