Tossin' And Turnin'
Bobby Lewis Lyrics
I couldn't sleep at all last night
Got to thinkin' of you
Baby things weren't right
Well I was tossin' and turnin'
Turnin' and tossin'
A tossin' and turnin' all night
I kicked the blankets on the floor
Turned my pillow upside down
I never never did before
'Cause I was tossin' and turnin'
Turnin' and tossin'
A-tossin' and turnin' all night
Jumped out of bed
Turned on the light
I pulled down the shade
Went to the kitchen for a bite
Rolled up the shade
Turned off the light
I jumped back into bed
It was the middle of the night
The clock downstairs was strikin' four
Couldn't get you off my mind
I heard the milkman at the door
'Cause I was tossin' and turnin'
Turnin' and tossin'
A tossin' and turnin' all night
Jumped out of bed
Turned on the light
I pulled down the shade
Went to the kitchen for a bite
Rolled up the shade
Turned off the light
I jumped back into bed
It was the middle of the night
The clock downstairs was strikin' four
I couldn't get you off my mind
I heard the milkman at the door
'Cause I was tossin' and turnin'
Turnin' and tossin'
A tossin' and turnin' all, yay, yay, yay
I was a tossin' and turnin'
Turnin' and tossin'
A tossin' and turnin' all night
I was a tossin' and turnin'
Turnin' and tossin'
A tossin' and turnin' all night

"Tossin' and Turnin'" prevented "The Boll Weevil Song" by Brook Benton and "I Like It Like That (Part 1)" by Chris Kenner from reaching #1, both records peaked at #2 and they each stayed at that position for three weeks...
From April of 1961 to July of 1962 the Indianapolis, Indiana native had four records on the Top 100 chart, two made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, the above "Tossin' and Turnin'"...
Besides "Tossin' and Turnin'", his other Top 10 record was "One Track Mind", it peaked at #9 {for 1 week} in September of 1961...

I was 11 when this song came out and they were playing it all over the radio. Of course I quickly learned all the words and loved it. This song is so tight. The bass line and the guitars and his voice and the backup singers all fit together snugly. I've been enjoying this song for the last 60 years. I see Bobby Lewis lived to 95. Good. I hope he had a great life.

I was also 11 when this came out ๐ค

Great song! Bobby Lewis must have found a sort of "Fountain of Youth". He was 36 years old when this was a big hit in 1961. He's still alive today at 93 years old. He may well have the world record for longest living rock and roller to date.

My advice to you? Start drinking heavily. You better listen to him Flounder, hes in PreMed.
Alex Burns
he eventually passed at 95 years of age- no small feat! Jerry Lee Lewis is still around as of this comment being written, at 86 years old. closest one I can think of
