The Zombies disbanded. In the early 70's, Blunstone re-emerged as a solo act, and scored several major hits. The music featured rhythm guitar now and ranged from string arranged melodies, to rock, to American folk. The Zombies were never far away; for instance, "Andorra", written by co-Zombies Rod Argent and White, is a remake of "Time of the Season".
"One Year" was his first solo album.
In the late 70's Colin lent his voice to The Alan Parsons Project, a logical progression from his solo work, as can be heard in a song such as "Old and Wise".
Colin is currently touring and recording again with Rod Argent, another founder member of the Zombies, performing both new material and hits from their joint and solo careers.
Misty Roses
Colin Blunstone Lyrics

Too soft to touch
But too lovely to leave alone
If I could be like misty roses
I'd love you so much
You're too lovely to leave alone
Flowers often cry
But too late to find
That their beauty has been lost
With their peace of mind
You look to me like love forever
Too good to last
But too lovely not to try
Flowers often cry
But too late to find
That their beauty has been lost
With their peace of mind
If I believe in love forever
I'd forget the past
You're too lovely not to try
You look to me like misty roses
Too soft to touch
But too lovely to leave alone
Flowers often cry
But too late to find
That their beauty has been lost
With their peace of mind
If I believe in love forever
I'd forget the past
You're too lovely not to try
Colin Blunstone's "Misty Roses" is a romantic ballad that contemplates the fragility of love and beauty. In the first verse, the singer compares his lover to misty roses, an image that suggests ethereal beauty and delicacy. He expresses a desire to be more like the roses so that he can love her more deeply. Despite her softness and beauty, he worries that she is too lovely to be left alone. The chorus repeats the idea that flowers often cry when it is too late to save their beauty, and compares that to relationships that end before their time. The second verse illustrates the singer's struggle with believing in love forever, despite being hurt in the past. He concludes that his lover is too special not to try, and acknowledges that misty roses may be too soft to touch but too lovely to leave alone.
The song's lyrics have a wistful and melancholic quality that captures the fear of losing something beautiful and meaningful. The misty roses metaphor creates a vivid image of something that is elusive and fleeting, and yet incredibly alluring. The repeated line "too lovely to leave alone" reinforces the idea that the singer's lover is precious and deserves to be cherished. The lines "flowers often cry but too late to find that their beauty has been lost with their peace of mind" suggest that the singer regrets not taking action sooner to preserve his relationship, and perhaps that he is haunted by missed opportunities in the past.
Overall, "Misty Roses" is a poignant reflection on the complexities and uncertainties of love, and the need to cherish and value the people and things we hold dear.
