I Had Too Much To Dream
The Electric Prunes Lyrics

Last night your shadow fell upon my lonely room
I touched your golden hair and tasted your perfume
Your eyes were filled with love the way they used to be
Your gentle hand reached out to comfort me
Then came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone

I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
Last night

The room was empty as I staggered from my bed
I could not bear the image racing through my head
You were so real that I could feel your eagerness
And when you raised your lips for me to kiss
Came the dawn
And you were gone
You were gone, gone, gone

I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
Last night

I had too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
I'm not ready to face the light
I had too much to dream
Last night
Last night

Oh, too much to dream
Oh, too much to dream
Too much to dream last night
Oh, too much to dream
Oh, too much to dream
Oh, too much to dream

This is hands down one of the best psychedelic rock songs of all time, the type that could have only been crafted during this fertile 66-67 period. Amazing.

@John Ironbear ..Hey John, my mom also wrote “Onie”” she wrote it for me when I was around 10 years old. I am Onie....lots of history behind the song, it’s mostly about our mother/daughter relationship and how much trouble it was headed into even at my young age....it’s she wrote several songs on the Prunes first album..Too Much Too Dream was the only one that went anywhere..it’s an iconic piece of music but Onie still makes me cry, such a beautiful song...Annette Tucker wrote the music...thank you for mentioning it....💕

I dreamed about this song last night, woke up and had to hear it again. It's been playing in my head all morning. Thanks for making it available. A favorite of mine from a great era❤

weird, this happened to me last night. I heard this song when I was a teenager, never again, but last night it was the background sound of a strange dream.

I was only six years old when this dropped. I heard it because I had a way cool older sister that played this stuff for me. Patricia Lee Poley, rest in peace and thanks for warping my taste in music forever.
