Their sound evolved with time, and when Harushige Maruyama joined the band (now a three-piece) they released their first major label mini album,『若者たち』(Wakamonotachi, "Young People"). From their own admission, the album's sound owed much to the Japanese guitar group Flipper's Guitar, of which they were big fans. Their sound was also reminiscent of the folk music revolution, exemplified in the music of late 60s Japanese group はっぴいえんど (Happy End). Sunny Day Service has gained considerable recognition for their acoustic work from this album.
Continuing their success and releasing a number of albums and singles, at the end of their Love Album Tour in 2000, Sunny Day Service announced they would disband. Since disbanding, a best of and b-side compilations have been released, while Keiichi Sokabe has gone on to a successful solo career.
朝
サニーデイ・サービス Lyrics

The lyrics of the song “Asa” by サニーデイ・サービス is a reflection on the feelings and uncertainties that come with a new day. The opening line, “Asatte no koto wakaru kai? Chotto fushigi ni omou nda” (Do you know what’s going to happen the day after tomorrow? I find it a little strange), speaks to the unknown nature of the future and how it can leave us feeling unsure. The mention of heading to a train station and taking a journey is a metaphor for moving forward in life and embracing new experiences, even if they are uncertain. The line “fuyu no asa, shizukesa ga machi wo tsutsumikonde shimau” (On a winter morning, the silence envelops the town) creates a vivid image of a quiet and peaceful morning, where one can reflect and think about where they are going in life.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of nostalgia and reflection, asking “Natsu no hi ni chikatta koto wo kimi wa omoidaseru no kai?” (Do you remember what you promised on a summer day?). This suggests that the singer is reflecting on a past promise or experience that they shared with someone. The lyrics create a sense of longing and uncertainty but also a feeling of possibility and hope, as the singer talks about heading out into the street with new shoes and embracing the new day. The repeated line “Donna kisetsu e bokura wa mukau?” (What season are we headed towards?) suggests that the future is uncertain, but it’s a journey that they are willing to take.
