Born in Tokuyama, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, Mitsuda began studying the piano at the age of five. By chance, he noticed a job advertisement for sound production for Squaresoft in an issue of Famitsu; despite a self-described "disastrous" interview with Squaresoft head composer 植松伸夫, in which he admitted he considered the job only a stepping stone to further his career and that he had never played Square's most famous games, such as Final Fantasy, executives were sufficiently impressed with his demo that he was hired as sound staff in 1992.
The release of Chrono Cross marked the beginning of his career as a freelance artist, which he continues to be, releasing both video game soundtracks and other original works under his own label, Procyon Studio. Other famous works of Mitsuda's include Mario Party, the Shadow Hearts series, and Xenosaga, a spiritual successor to Xenogears.
海と炎の絆
光田康典 Lyrics

The force of life goes on and on
The song remains like a haunting melody
Of angel music held in chains
And i ask you
Can we ease the pain of those who lost (the force of life goes on)
Can we know the cause of all this sorrow (tears of loneliness)
Can we catch the tears of a broken world
The waves of time take me deeper into you
A haze as blue as summer skies
And turn to find the key will not unlock the door
This broken bird away it flies
And i ask you
Can we ease the pain of those who lost (the force of life goes on)
Can we know the cause of all this sorrow (tears of loneliness)
Can we catch the tears of a broken world
Falling down upon the earth, falling down...
The lyrics to 光田康典's song 海と炎の絆 (Umi to Honoo no Kizuna, or Bond of Sea and Flame) are full of emotion and meaning. The first line, "Your fingertips moving gently to my heart," suggests a physical and emotional connection between two people. The following line, "The force of life goes on and on," may reflect the idea that life is a powerful and unstoppable force. The next line, "The song remains like a haunting melody," refers to a song that is both beautiful and eerie.
The lyrics then turn more introspective, asking whether it is possible to ease the pain of those who have suffered loss, know the cause of sorrow, or catch the tears of a broken world. These lines reflect the singer's empathy and desire to understand and comfort others. The image of tears falling down upon the earth creates a sense of sadness and despair.
The final stanza continues the theme of searching for answers and understanding. The image of the "waves of time" taking the singer "deeper into you" suggests a journey into the self or into another person's psyche. However, the line "And turn to find the key will not unlock the door" suggests frustration and the impossibility of finding all the answers. The final line, "This broken bird away it flies," implies a feeling of loss and perhaps the sense that some things can never be fully understood or fixed.
