The start of the song talks about a broken red thong that can't be fixed, followed by a description of the singer running away while leaving someone behind, with blood trickling from their fingers. The chorus then starts, questioning the worth of waiting for someone who will never come or has already died, as they're the same in the end. The petals of the cherry blossom fall like snow, whiter than the burnt and charred skin on the singer's body, who claims to be the night cherry blossom, Yozakura Oshichi.
In the second verse, the singer speaks of how the person they used to kiss is no longer with them, and that their love wasn't that great to begin with, represented by the wind blowing against their shrugged shoulders. The chorus repeats once more, and then the song talks of Oshichi being embraced after dreaming of it when she was 20 years old, during a hazy moonlit night. She surveys the area, and the cherry blossom petals continue falling, like snow. Finally, Oshichi bids farewell to that person amidst the flow of cherry blossom petals, questioning whether or not she should have put on a lipstick and held a handkerchief to wipe away her tears.

10代の時初めて聞いて20年余り経ちますが、未だ大好きです。
当時演歌とは無縁なギャルブームの世代でしたが、この曲だけは、特別な物(激しさ、若い世代にも聞きやすい演歌)を感じていました。
毎年春に、桜を観ると必ず聴きたくなります。
桜を観るとつい口ずさみます。
また、自身の激しい恋を想い、思い出し、懐かしくも切なくもなります。
不朽の名曲です。
今年も桜の季節にありがとうございました。
来年もまた…桜の季節に会いましょう！
