Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

(Akiko Yano) presents a series of impossible desires and a recognition of their impossibility. The opening lines describe a situation where the singer is feeling happy and the stars appear to fall as a consequence. However, the following lines hint at some negative experiences in the past that were laughed off without addressing underlying feelings. The singer then compares the feeling of their skin after using a scrub to feelings that were “ざらざらだった” (raw or rough), suggesting that there were unaddressed feelings that were uncomfortable to confront. Despite this discomfort, the singer acknowledges the desire to have everything, be loved unconditionally, and give everything with all possible effort. The singer recognizes that these are impossible to achieve and accepts that some dreams will only remain as such. The repetition of the song’s chorus, “全部手に入れたい そりゃムリだ もれなく愛されたい そりゃムリだ いつも全速力 そりゃムリだ 愛することだけはやめられないんです” (I want everything, but it’s impossible to get it all / I want unconditional love, but it’s impossible to have it / I want to go at full speed all the time, but it’s impossible / but I can’t stop loving) highlights the emphasis on impossible desires that the singer cannot fulfill, except for the love that cannot be stopped.

The song evokes a sense of longing for something more than what is possible, but also a sense of acceptance that some desires can never truly be fulfilled. The overall message seems to be an acknowledgment of the limits of human existence, but that love alone is something that transcends those limits. It is a poignant reminder that even when one cannot have everything, the love that one chooses to give and accept remains a constant force that sustains hope and meaning.

I don't know why, but I cry every time the 2nd verse comes along. Just this version, not other singers' renditions. Definitely tapping into some collective nostalgia for the innocence of childhood, the sheer beauty & transience of life.
