The lyrics of 9mm Parabellum Bullet's "Heat-Island" tell a story of a protagonist who is willing to take on the demands of others, even if it means making sense out of something that appears to be trash or a lost cause. The singer seems to be brave and willing to fight, but also aware of their own limitations and vulnerabilities. They describe themselves as having "leftover courage" that they laugh off and throw away like trash. The singer questions their own identity as a "real hero" and suggests that if they were one, they would already be dead.
The second half of the song is more abstract, describing the mundane and repetitive aspects of life, like killing time and leaving footprints on pavement. The singer sees a group of fireflies gathering around a mirage-like reflection of water, but they themselves feel lost and indecisive, craving only the sweetness of life. The singer ends the song by repeating the phrase "I am here" over and over again, as if to remind themselves of their existence in a world that can often feel confusing and overwhelming.
Overall, "Heat-Island" offers a complex portrayal of a protagonist who is both brave and vulnerable, willing to take on the demands of others while also questioning their own identity and place in the world.
