At first, I didn't like this piece. But the more I've listened to it, the more I realize just how amazing it is and that it even rivals the fourth Ballade as Chopin's magnum opus.

Otherworldly beautiful, Rubinstein brings out the noble character of this masterpiece. Where other great pianists go astray and play too fast or incoherently, Rubinstein sculptures the music in a monolithic way. A truly great performance.

For me, this, the Ballade #2 and 4, and about 3-4 of the Nocturnes represent Chopin's very best of the best. Mozart, Bach, Beethoven... great composers... but none of them can reach your heart in the very farthest corners like FC.

+tmc359 Chopin's music is the universal language of human.

You forgot the barcarolle and the fantasy in f minor...

It is undoubtedly the best masterpiece of all Chopin's songs. Borrowing the style of the polonaise, this fantasy song contains all the joys and sorrows of Chopin's life. At a time when death was approaching, he recalled his feelings of sadness, pain, and joy. And as we get to the coda of this song, Chopin has a little bit of hope for life. It's a very beautiful and sad song.

If it is indeed his favorite piece then you can tell how deep he gets into the music and how he flows with and whithin it. Chopin would be proud!

I owned this album way back then. It made a huge impression on me. So many bittersweet memories.

Chopin would be proud... I don't know why we got get music like this anymore. Maybe we don't deserve it.

Listening to this late at night as the rain pours down is warm.
