The lyrics to the song "Aaja O Jaan-E-Jaan Mere Meherban" by Asha Bhosle convey a sense of longing and desire for the beloved. The song begins with the repeated plea to the beloved to come closer, addressing them as "meri meherban" or "my kind-hearted one." The imagery of the lyrics further highlight the entrancing beauty of the beloved, with mentions of "naino ka kajra" (the kohl in the eyes), "dil ka yeh achara" (the pickle of the heart), and "baaho ka gajra" (the garland of the arms) that entice the singer.
The second verse describes the effects of the absence of the beloved. The singer confides that since the beloved has left home, their love has been yearning for their return. The rain falls like tears from the eyelids, and the moon fails to pass by from this side. Every breath causes the heart to ache, and wounds shed tears. The repeated plea to the beloved to come closer continues throughout this verse.
The final verse highlights the enchantment and allure of the beloved. Their presence is compared to the melody in a tambourine ("ghungroo") and the radiance in the eyes. Their face is likened to a mask in flowers, and their laughter is compared to the stars in the sky. The singer admits to being entranced by their glance and exclaims with a sigh escaping from their lips. The repeated plea to the beloved to come closer remains as an incessant yearning throughout the song.
Overall, the lyrics of "Aaja O Jaan-E-Jaan Mere Meherban" express a fervent desire for the beloved, emphasizing the captivating qualities and longing for their presence.
