1) ASP is a German darkwave band from Frankfurt am Main formed in 1999. The name Asp is taken from the pseudonym of the band leader and is pronounced as one word (like the snake), but written in capital letters. They formed in 1999 by Alexander Frank Spreng and Matthias Ambré (a.k.a. "Matze"), producing their first 3-track demo CD later that year. In 2000, they signed a record deal with Tristol, who released the band's debut album Hast Du mich vermisst? as well as the band's first live performance, at the 'Gothicworld' festival.
Over the next few years, they released two more albums, and along with their debut album, formed the album series Der Schwarze Schmetterling. ASP continued to perform at high-profile festivals due to their growing popularity.
The band suffered some difficulty in 2004 with the bankruptcy of distributor EFA, though their albums were reissued later that year, along with the Interim Works Compendium, a 2CD collection of rarities as well as selected tracks from their three albums to date. Another string of live dates took them through to the release of Aus der Tiefe in May 2005, the fourth part of the Der Schwarze Schmetterling series. The fifth part Requiembryo followed in 2007.
The year 2008 saw the release of three new albums. First, a best of-album Horror Vacui was released in February. This was followed by a tour in Europe. At the end of August the band released Zaubererbruder - Der Krabat-Liederzyklus, an album based on the Sorbian Krabat legend. The live recording Akoasma - Horror Vacui Live became available in December 2008. They have also remixed Emilie Autumn's "Liar", plus provided vocals for the mix. It is known as the "Manic Depressive Mix" and is featured on the Liar/Dead Is The New Alive (Double Feature EP). The band released their first DVD in August 2009, entitled Von Zaubererbrüdern: Live & Unplugged.
In 2011, after almost 11 years of cooperation, the paths of the two founders of the band diverged - songwriter and singer Alexander "Asp" Spreng and producer and guitarist Matthias Ambré. ASP as a band continued with new partners, and the musicians Andreas Gross and Oliver Himmighoffen were retained for live performances. The reasons for separation are given officially as personal and professional differences.
One year later Oliver Himmighoffen also left the band. In his place Stefan Günther, who is a friend of Sören Jordan, joined the band. There are new festival dates in 2022, some in 2021 had to be cancelled due to the Corona epidemic, and they released a new Best Of compilation titled Reflexionen 1 and Reflexionen 2.

3) Asp is a thrash/hardcore/heavy metal band from Austin, Texas. Originating in 1999, Keith Palumbo (who worked at Waterloo Records and is a known drummer) had song titles, but nothing more. He met Chris Cline (an engineer and musician), but Chris moved back to his hometown and the project was put to the side until 2002. After spending some time in the studio working on music, Keith and Chris recruited Craig Moore for vocals who is known for his hardcore/grind/death/chaos metal vocal style. They finally had music to go with Keith's song titles, and their self-titled album was released in 2005 containing some very short songs (re-release on several streaming sites in 2021).

Die Teufelsmühle
Asp Lyrics

Dort im tiefen Tale,
Keiner weiß, was vor sich geht,
Noch, was sie dort mahlen.
Aus dem Moor das Wasser fließt
Und sich auf die Schaufeln gießt.
Wie des Müllers Seele.
Ist es wahr, was sie im Dorf
Über ihn erzählen?
Hör, wie sich das Mühlrad dreht,
Wo nie Vögel singen,
Wohin niemand jemals fährt,
Um das Korn zu bringen.
Denn der Müller ist ein Mann,
Der so manchen Zauber kann.
Dort am Sumpf wie Pech und Teer,
An dem kalten Pfuhle,
Lehrt die dunklen Künste er
In der Schwarzen Schule.
Der Müller ist ein reicher Mann,
Liebt's sein Gold zu horten,
Weil er viel' Schätze finden kann
An geheimen Orten.
Manchmal kann man ihn nachts sehn
Über Feld und Wiesen gehn.
Und kehrt er alsbald zurück
Mit belad'nem Karren.
Schau schnell weg, der Böse Blick
Lässt dich sonst erstarren.
Wer sich hin zu Mühle wagt,
Und nach Müllersitte
Dort nach Mahl und Arbeit fragt,
Wird fortgejagt mit Tritten.
Wer beim Müller in der Not
Bettelt um ein Stückchen Brot,
Erntet nicht Almosen, bloß
Höhnisches Gelächter.
Der Meister lässt die Hunde los,
Zwölf hat er als Wächter.
Hör, wie sich das Mühlrad dreht
Immer um die Nabe.
Spürst du, wie die Zeit vergeht
Bis du liegst im Grabe.
Nur der Müller, Jahr um Jahr.
Bleibt so jung, wie er es war.
Wann er die Mühle übernahm,
Weiß keiner mehr zu sagen,
Den alten Meister, als er kam,
Hat er, sagt man, erschlagen.
Hör doch, wie das Rad sich dreht
In der Abendkühle.
Ein zweites in der Stube steht
In der Teufelsmühle.
Und die Burschen stehn im Kreis,
Das Gesicht von Mehl ganz weiß.
Keiner weiß, auf wen sie zeigt,
Auf dem Rad die Kerbe,
Doch, bei wem sie stehen bleibt,
Der muss heute noch sterben.
Die Mühle liegt im Tal geduckt
Und lauert auf die Beute,
So manchen hat sie schon verschluckt
Ein Riss im Hier und Heute.
Manchmal sieht man Burschen ziehn
Auf dem Weg zu Mühle hin.
Und wen der Müller eingestellt,
Nimmt bei sich in die Lehre.
Der ist verlorn für diese Welt,
Der wird nie wiederkehren.
Der ist verlorn für diese Welt.
Der wird nie wiederkehren.
The lyrics to ASP's song "Die Teufelsmühle" describe an ominous mill located in a deep valley, where no birds sing and nobody goes to bring grain. The water that powers the mill comes from a dark and murky swamp, and the mill's owner, the Miller, is rumored to practice dark magic and have possession of hidden treasures. The Miller is a wealthy man who loves to hoard his gold, and those who try to beg for food or work are chased away by his twelve guard dogs. The mill itself is believed to be cursed, with a marking on the wheel that predicts the death of whomever it stops on. The song conveys an eerie and ominous feeling, emphasizing the idea that one should steer clear of this mill and its owner.
The lyrics of ASP's song "Die Teufelsmühle" are based on a German folk tale about a mill that is believed to be cursed. The tale has been told in various forms throughout history, often featuring a mill owner who is rumored to be in league with the devil and who uses his magic to lure unsuspecting individuals into his clutches. The mill traps its victims, and they are not seen or heard from again.
The song has gained significant popularity within the gothic and dark wave music scene in Germany, and it is often cited as one of ASP's most haunting and atmospheric compositions. ASP is a German gothic rock band known for their elaborate stage shows and dark aesthetics. The song's lyrics and instrumentation perfectly capture the unsettling atmosphere that surrounds the cursed mill.

Sieh, wie sich das Mühlrad dreht
Observe the rotation of the mill wheel
Dort im tiefen Tale,
There in the deep valley
Keiner weiß, was vor sich geht,
No one knows what's going on
Noch, was sie dort mahlen.
Nor what they are grinding there
Aus dem Moor das Wasser fließt
Water flows from the marsh
Und sich auf die Schaufeln gießt.
And pours onto the blades
'S ist so schwarz von dunklem Torf
It's so black from dark peat
Wie des Müllers Seele.
Like the miller's soul
Ist es wahr, was sie im Dorf
Is it true what they say in the village
Über ihn erzählen?
About him?
Hör, wie sich das Mühlrad dreht,
Listen to the rotation of the mill wheel
Wo nie Vögel singen,

Um das Korn zu bringen.
To bring the grain

Mit belad'nem Karren.
With a laden cart
Schau schnell weg, der Böse Blick
Quickly look away, the evil eye
Lässt dich sonst erstarren.
Might otherwise freeze you

Dort nach Mahl und Arbeit fragt,
Asks there for meal and work

Always around the hub
Spürst du, wie die Zeit vergeht
Do you feel how time passes
Bis du liegst im Grabe.
Until you lie in the grave
Nur der Müller, Jahr um Jahr.
Only the miller, year after year
Bleibt so jung, wie er es war.
Remains as young as he was
Wann er die Mühle übernahm,
When he took over the mill
Weiß keiner mehr zu sagen,
Nobody knows anymore to say
Den alten Meister, als er kam,
The old master, when he came
Hat er, sagt man, erschlagen.
He, they say, killed him.
Hör doch, wie das Rad sich dreht
Listen, how the wheel turns
In der Abendkühle.
In the evening coolness
Ein zweites in der Stube steht
A second one stands in the room
In der Teufelsmühle.
In the Devil's mill
Und die Burschen stehn im Kreis,
And the lads stand in a circle
Das Gesicht von Mehl ganz weiß.
Their faces white from flour
Keiner weiß, auf wen sie zeigt,
Nobody knows who it points to
Auf dem Rad die Kerbe,
On the wheel, the notch
Doch, bei wem sie stehen bleibt,
But whoever it stops at
Der muss heute noch sterben.
Must die even today.
Die Mühle liegt im Tal geduckt
The mill is crouched in the valley
Und lauert auf die Beute,
And lies in wait for the prey
So manchen hat sie schon verschluckt
She has already swallowed up many
Ein Riss im Hier und Heute.
A crack in the here and now.
Manchmal sieht man Burschen ziehn
Sometimes you see lads go
Auf dem Weg zu Mühle hin.
Towards the way to the mill.
Und wen der Müller eingestellt,
And when the miller hires
Nimmt bei sich in die Lehre.
Takes into his apprenticeship.
