"Fire and Rain" by Blood, Sweat and Tears was inspired by the suicide of James Taylor's friend Suzanne Schnerr, whom he met in London, and the success of his own career with his first band The Flying Machine. The first verse of the song refers to the moment Taylor heard of Schnerr's death. The second verse talks about Taylor's own struggles, including his personal demons with drug addiction, and his concern for his own mortality. He turns to Jesus for help in making it through each day.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the ups and downs of life. Taylor has seen the peaks of sunny days that he thought would last forever, as well as the lonely times when he couldn't find a friend. Despite the struggles, Taylor always believed he would see Suzanne again. In the final verse, Taylor reflects on the fact that even as he's become a successful musician, he still faces tough times.

Of all the versions of this song I have heard -- and I've heard a LOT -- this is definitely my favorite, and not just because I'm a BS&T fanboy. Which I am. They took the song and made it their own, gave it a new spin, and that's what makes THIS version fantastic.

This is gripping blues rendition..not a wimpy one.. At the end when he says I always thought I would see you........one more time." Wow couldn't be any better...that piano and brass,guitar. such a magical combination.
