Smiling Phases
by Blood Sweat And Tears

Do yourself a favor
Wake up to your mind
Life is what you make it
You see, but still you're blind
Get yourself together
Give before you take
You'll find out the hard way
Soon you're gonna break

Hey hey hey
Smiling phases
Showing traces
Even if they bust you
Keep on smiling through and through
And you'll be amazed at the gaze
On their faces as they sentence you
You don't need a lawyer
When you're in a fix
Someone gets to pay up

Your friends are full of tricks
But happiness is something
That you just can't buy
Own up to the truth girl
Your love has gone on by
Smiling Phases bring you flowers
You can line 'em up
And you can watch 'em grow for hours
And you'll be amazed at the way that they stare

As they walk by your door
Do yourself a favor
Wake up to your mind
Life is what you make it
You see, but still you're blind
Get yourself together
Give before you take
You'll find out the hard way

Soon you're gonna break
Hey hey hey
Smiling phases
Going Places
Even if they bust you
Keep on smiling through and through
And you'll be amazed at the gaze
On their faces as they sentence you!

Could be this is among the Top 10 most underrated albums ever.

CN S

Well, it won Album of the Year Grammy... all nine members were individually fabulous and equally so as a group. They were very popular at the time. All continued their careers successfully through the decades, but this original group still touches my heart and soul.. I know Lew Soloff is no longer with us, and David Clayton Thomas has cut way back to almost no performances per year now (age 77, a few limitations in mobility, I suspect). I search for any and all BS&T and DCT performance video and audio on YouTube, and I’m never disappointed. Intriguing path these folks took throughout their lives.

Hissing Flora

And the singer is underrated too. Deserves way more praise than he seems to get.

Joseph Obenauer

Smokin version of the Traffic classic, I actually like this version better.

Kevin Wingler

traffic is probably a better band but this version is alot better

Ross Browning

Jim FIelder incredible bass player...

Joseph Obenauer

This band is tighter than a clam' a**.

Mike Reiss

The way this band had long instrumental sections in some of their songs seemed to be a harbinger of the whole progressive rock era of just a few years later.

Casparus Kruger

I don't think that just the interplay between the drums and bass on the rhythm track in this recording could ever be reproduced by anyone anywhere ever.

Tom Baker

Bobby Colomby's drumming is fantastic here - no rock drummer could play like this!
