Tu as pris sous ton bras
Nos peines et nos tourments
Voilà comment
On se perd en conjectures
On oublie ses blessures
Et l'on se dit couvent
Que l'on se ment
On dirait que de le dire
Ca allège un peu l'estomac ah ah
Mais sitôt que l'on respire
On s'en ressert encore une fois ah ah lalala
Pas de regrets pas d'adieux
On reste malheureux
Puisqu'on aime un peu ça
Plus que l'on croit
S'il fallait recommencer
Même si c'est insensé
On ne te changerait pas
Voilà pourquoi
Il me faut bien te le dire
Quand on rit si fort c'est de toi ah ah
Toujours suivi d'un soupir
C'est tout ce qu'on, ce qu'on te doit ah ah lalala
The song "Le cran" by Debout sur le zinc explores the theme of missed opportunities and the lingering feeling of unhappiness that comes with it. The lyrics convey a sense of longing and regret for not having had the courage to break free from a situation where the singer is unhappy, possibly in a relationship. The phrase "Si j'avais eu le cran" translates to "If I had had the guts" or "If I had been brave enough." The singer reflects on how things might have been different if they had taken a leap and left the person they are addressing. However, it seems that the person they are referring to is not going to give them the answers or validation they seek, leaving the singer in a state of anticipation and despair.
The chorus of the song suggests that speaking about it or expressing these feelings may provide some relief, but it doesn't fully erase the pain. The line "On dirait que de le dire ca enlève un peu les gravats" translates to "It seems that saying it aloud somewhat clears away the rubble." However, the mention of the person's smile indicates that the pain still lingers beneath the surface.
The second verse delves deeper into the complex dynamics of the relationship, suggesting that the other person took on their burdens and troubles, causing confusion and the eventual loss of oneself. The line "On se perd en conjectures, on oublie ses blessures" translates to "We get lost in speculation, we forget our wounds." This highlights the self-deception and denial that can happen when we convince ourselves that we are content even though we are not. Despite acknowledging this, the singer admits that they would not change the situation if given the chance to start over, emphasizing the complicated nature of love and the human tendency to hold onto something even when it causes pain.
Overall, "Le cran" captures the internal battle of wanting to break free from unhappiness but also acknowledging the allure of familiarity and the fear of the unknown. It portrays the complexities and contradictions of human emotions, particularly when it comes to relationships.
