La Californie Attend
Diadems Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Elle marche sur le trottoir
De n'importe quelle ville
Elle est toujours toute seule
Suspendue à son fil

Son père prend un dernier verre
Seul dans la cuisine;
Elle se découpe une vie meilleure
Dans un magasine...

Pourtant
Elle veut vivre sa vie
Même si c'est une folie
C'est toujours un peu mieux qu'ici

Refrain:
Hey, elle veut partir ce soir
La Californie Attend
Pleine de promesses et de gloire

Hey, ça s'rai vraiment trop cool
Si elle pouvait sortir de la foule
Etre quelqu'un, quelque part, un jour...

Faire des économies
Pour mettre enfin les voiles
Aller jusqu'à Hollywood
Là où vivent les étoiles

Des Gentelmen en coupé sport
La ramèneront chez elle
Mais au coucher du soleil
Où qu'on soit, c'est pareil...

Refrain

Californie attends, je saurai être patiente jusque là

Refrain

Overall Meaning

The song "La Californie attend" by Diadems is about a girl who dreams of leaving her small town and going to California to live a better life. The lyrics talk about how she walks alone on the sidewalks of any town and dreams of a better life. Her father spends his time drinking alone in the kitchen while she cuts out pictures of her ideal life from magazines. She wants to live her life, even if it seems like a crazy idea, and believes that it is better than living in her current situation.

The chorus talks about how she wants to leave tonight and go to California, a place full of promise and glory. She wants to be someone, somewhere, someday. She dreams of saving up enough money to go to Hollywood and live where the stars are. She hopes that gentlemen in a sports car will take her home, but she knows that no matter where she is, the sunset is the same.

Overall, the song is a commentary on the desire for a better life and the struggle to leave behind one's current situation to pursue those dreams.

I don’t think you can blame a single political party.

One of the biggest reasons why people are homeless is because their jobs were outsourced to foreign countries because those companies only care about the bottom line, and that’s an issue that goes beyond California in a lot of red states where you see a lot of poor white people for this very reason.

Let’s remind ourselves what the republican party stands for: gun ownership, less government, and the de-regulation for big corporations. And what do you end up with ? police murdering people of color, outsourcing and global warming

You also have a lack of funding for mental health facilities, which we know the Republicans aren’t going to do and they would rather see homeless people, and people of color shot and murdered or locked up which is why BLM exists.

California attempts to hold law-enforcement more accountable, which is why white conservatives feel like they’re letting criminals run wild in the streets but fail to recognize how and why they needed to resort to crime in the first place.

This is the narrative (and yes, I’m mainly talking to you white conservatives) you have been fooled into believing.

So you can go ahead and move to Texas where it’s mainly Republican but eventually you’re going end up with the same problem and then who are you gonna blame?

@TXGUNNER! As the conversation has once again devolved away from events, precedent, and quotes into one of selective semantics, ethnocentrism, and ad hominem statements, I will be disengaging with you after this post.

My initial point was not of Trump's "grand leadership qualities" or some such nonsense. Instead, I argued that given the timeline and facts as they occurred, I am skeptical any adminitration would have yielded better results regarding COVID-19.

I am American, born, raised, and proud. Your assumption of otherwise displays an ignorance of natural human variety of thought, while conveying superiority complexes. Ignorance is forgivable and the natural state of the mind, but your embracing of superiority is abhorrent, as that trait has led our species to commit some of the greatest atrocities on record.

I know why the Spanish flu was titled as such, and the fact that you took time to try to explain it displays that you don't read an argument, you glance and immediately rebuke, offering no substance beyond rhetoric from your fingertips. This small section proved to me that there will be no interaction of any value occurring here.

Also, as a note, out of my values and principals, I roundly rejected voting for Trump in 2016, finding him to be unsuitable for the position. My opinion of his general suitability has not changed, but the logic-less stances and social poison seeping from individuals such as yourself has pushed me closer to voting for the incumbent than I had ever believed myself to be able to reach.

When the day comes that you truly hate what our nation has become, I hope you will do what each responsible citizen will do: look in the mirror, know that to some degree it is your own fault too, and ask "How can I do better?"

TXGUNNER!

@Tony Table
Perhaps you are unfamiliar with it because you don't live in the US. He said it, maybe his meaning is arguable, but he said it. Snopes says as much, it does not categorically refute the accusation, it does leave room for interpretation.

"During a Feb. 28, 2020, campaign rally in South Carolina, President Donald Trump likened the Democrats' criticism of his administration's response to the new coronavirus outbreak to their efforts to impeach him, saying "this is their new hoax." During the speech he also seemed to downplay the severity of the outbreak, comparing it to the common flu."

Perhaps you do not understand that the "Spanish" flu was called that not because it came from Spain, because it didn't. They were the only ones reporting it because where it came from was involved in a war.

Whatever help that was given was clearly ineffective. Trump himself could have helped if he had taken the lead and advised closing down, instead of after a month of self-serving briefings he threw his hands up and said it was up to the states to do anything. He is a weak leader when we needed him the most and he fucked it up. I did not propose that it would magically go away. Trump said that, unless you want to deny that he said that as well.

This is about a national response. Pawning it off on the states after doing basically nothing for 3 months is just typical of Trump and they way he will not take responsibility for anything. You defend him which makes you a fucking idiot. Biden 2020!

@TXGUNNER! So, I was unfamiliar with claim of Pres Trump calling the virus a hoax, and a quick Google trip over to Snopes states that as a false allegation. The related speech given by Trump regarding the point you presented was late February (28th I believe), so a month after the declaration of emergency by his administration, and was calling the criticism he was receiving from political opponents as a hoax.

I used the term "Flu" not to conflate cov-19 with the annual flu cycle, but instead as the title by which it was originally presented. Many viruses receive the title of "flu" during their spread, like H1N1 being referred to as both Spanish and Swine flu.

Finally, your claim of a 4 month delay in reaction is also false. Throughout February and March, the feds were offering assistance to the states through medical supplies and monetary support. I am not sure where you have drawn your conclusions and perhaps I am missing some other resource or factor to which you are more familiar.

Personally, I do think that his daily press conference and language to calm Americans was in poor advice, as the man is far from a great orator. I dont think that anyone over the age of 14 with even a cursory understanding of the immune system would believe that any virus would "magically" go away, as you proposed.

Lastly, and this goes more to personal opinion, I believe it important for states and local governments to lead the charge in response to different crisis. I think that granting the federal government the power to implement new measures as they see fit opens up an avenue for totalitarian despot type techniques. I have heard for years the fear to fascist practices that a Trump administration would impose upon the country, so generally, I would say it is a good thing that an administration would leave the reins in the hands of the people of the state through their elected officials

This is SO ACCURATE. I've lived in San Diego for 15 years and couldn't say anything less. My sister lives in LA and says the same, and frequently visits San Diego with her family. I think this pandemic and unrest is going to be very regional. San Diego has a rich tapestry of small businesses and more united and welcoming than ever. There are so many folks moving here from The Bay Area and Los Angeles. We had 2 bad nights in La Mesa and Downtown San Diego, then the violent protesters were all arrested, ending the violence immediately as a result<3

I grew up in San Diego (OB) and loved it my whole life until, the politics ,strict govt greed and way to many people and traffic made me leave. I'd never move back either. To close to a wide open border. The crime has skyrocketed too.
I'm 50% native but feel %100 and wish everyone that's not native would leave .

@Bob Shaw of course it does. So if ya had a chance to take a district, they will remap you away.
