Care of Cell 44
Elliott Smith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Good morning to you, I hope you're feeling better, baby
Thinking of me while you are far away
Counting the days until they set you free again
Writing this letter, hoping you're okay
Saved you the room you used to stay in every sunday
The one that is warmed by sunshine every day
And we'll get to know each other for a second time
And then you can tell me about your prison stay
Feels so good
You're coming home soon!
It's going to be good to have you back again with me
Watching the laughter play around your eyes
Come up and fetch you, saved up for the train fare money
Kiss and make up and it will be so nice
Feels so good
You're coming home soon!
Walking the way we used to walk
And it could be so nice
We're talking the way we used to talk
And it could be so nice
It's going to be good to have you back again with me
Watching the laughter play around your eyes
Come up and fetch you, saved up for the train fare money
Kiss and make up and it will be so nice
Feels so good
You're coming home soon!

Feels so good
You're coming home soon!

I am constantly amazed at how Elliott Smith seems to have either written or covered ALL of my favourite songs.

(Yes, I realise this comment is 4 years old - but I have to express my joy for this beautiful music :) )

I used to listen to this song (zombies original) in early high school when i was getting into all the 60s stuff and just discovering into music....always seemed to be kind of a random one, not like it's one of the most memorable songs of that era, but i loved it. my mind was blown when i saw he covered it....you're right, beautiful music, from a truly beautiful musician..

I love how well his voice fits with Paul's parts on Beatles' songs. Similar register and tone. Paul has better range, I would say, but they both have that mid-range honeyed gold that the world fell in -love- hysteria with upon the Beatles' American Invasion. And when they are a huge inspiration, and if you can foot the bill as well as Elliott, how could you not cover their more beautiful/melancholy songs given half an opportunity to do so... and thank goodness he did.

@mrsdewinter

I like that Elliott listened to the same music I do

I love both the Zombies and Elliott Smith. Therefore, this video is awesome.

My wife big Elliott fan. Told her that this song he covered. She said she's heard everything but hadn't heard of this. Thanks for the upload 12 years ago lol

Wow... this is pretty damn good. It strikes me as a very difficult song to sing... all those unexpected melodic shifts. Even harder when you've got minimal instrumental backing. Very impressive.

@boorainbow
