The band eventually broke up in 1996 and Bunbury started his solo career in 1997 with a techno album, Radical Sonora with his new band: Copi (piano), del Moran (bass), Ramón Gacias (drums) and former Héroes del Silencio guitarrist Alan Boguslavsky.
Recognized by his wish to always reinvent himself, Bunbury released in 1999 the album Pequeño, which sounded much different than anything he did before. His band also suffered changes, Boguslavsky was replaced by Rafa Domínguez, and the new faces, Ana Belén Estaje (violin), Luis Miguel Romero (percussion), Javier Iñigo, Javier García Vega & Antonio Ríos in the metal instruments.
This band was known as the "Huracán Ambulante" ("Rambling Hurricane") and recorded with Bunbury the rest of his solo discography, (except Antonio Ríos).
In 2005, after 8 years together, Bunbury dissolved the band and declared that will record a new album in 2006 only with his voice and a piano. Nevertheless, in early 2006 he recorded an album with spanish artist Nacho Vegas by the name of El tiempo de las cerezas.
His old band, Héroes del Silencio, reunited in 2007 for a short tour which visited Latin America, United States and Spain.

The lyrics to Enrique Bunbury's song "El Anzuelo" describe the human tendency to chase after impossible dreams and fall into traps, whether they be of love, fame, or other vices. The first verse describes the fruitless pursuit of something unattainable, comparing it to an ignorant sailor searching for a destination on a map. The second verse speaks to the idea of chasing after an idealized version of oneself or one's work, even to the point of self-destruction. The third verse references the allure of dangerous and immoral love, deceitfully calling to us like a siren's song. Finally, the last verse touches on the contradiction of seeking freedom while still being ensnared by our own desires.
Overall, the lyrics suggest that we are all susceptible to falling into traps and being caught by the "hook," or anzuelo, of our own weaknesses. Despite our best efforts to evade them, we often find ourselves drawn in by the very things we were trying to avoid.

Me dices que soy
Un poco particular
Y te estorban esas cosas
Que adoraste más de mí
Si soy así
Un poco loco
De todas formas
Y por suerte yo soy otro.
Me dices que soy
Un poco particular
Cuando esas pequeñas bromas
Te hacían reír hasta llorar.
Y ahora las odias
Y aunque no me conozcas
De todas formas
Y por suerte alegría me sobra.
Lo que más te gustó de mí
Es lo que quieres cambiar
Y hay que estar
Con las botas puestas.
Dispuesto a aguantar
Sabes que pienso
Que una retirada a tiempo
Es siempre una derrota.
Me dices que soy
Un poco particular
Que los recuerdos se parecen
Sólo en parte a la realidad
Que no es verdad
Que subiera más alto
De todas formas
Y por suerte no quiero tus halagos.
Lo que más te gustó de mí
Es lo que quieres cambiar
Y hay que estar
Con las botas puestas.
Dispuesto a aguantar
Sabes que pienso
Que una retirada a tiempo
Es siempre una derrota.
Ajustes de cuentas
Palabras como piedras
Lanzadas con fuerza
Contra las ventanas.
Lo que más te gustó de mí
Es lo que quieres cambiar
Y hay que estar
Con las botas puestas.
Dispuesto a aguantar
Sabes que pienso
Que una retirada a tiempo
Es siempre una derrota.
