Fight The Fade Lyrics

Cause I warned you before
about the company you keep
But you sit and drink
The venom of the snake
That’s coiled around your neck
Yeah, around your neck
Who you are
I don’t know
Who you are
You’re not the same man you
Were before
I can’t pretend not to
See the dark
But I swear I’m through
Opening old wounds
You might say
I’m burning the bridge we made
But the fire I’ll use came from you
When you struck the match
To burn me at the stake
You made your bed
I hope it keeps you awake
I don’t know
Who you are
You’re not the same man you
Were before
I can’t pretend not to
See the dark
But I swear I’m through
Opening old wounds
The lyrics of "Old Wounds" by Fight The Fade are about the pain and frustration of seeing someone you care about fall victim to negative influences. The singer has warned this person about the toxic company they keep, but they ignore the advice and continue to indulge in destructive behavior. The metaphor of the snake coiled around their neck emphasizes the danger and entrapment of this situation.
The second verse reflects the singer's confusion and disappointment in their friend's changed behavior. They no longer recognize the person they once knew and can no longer ignore the darkness they now see. The chorus reveals the singer's decision to move on and leave behind the pain of their past interactions. The bridge metaphor suggests that the decision to cut ties is a difficult but necessary one.
In the final verse, the singer asserts that the responsibility for the current state of their relationship lies with the other person. Their actions have caused irreparable damage and the singer hopes that they will feel the consequences of their choices. Overall, "Old Wounds" is a powerful exploration of the complexities of relationships and the difficulties of leaving behind harmful patterns.
