I've watched your comment similar as the times I listened to this piece. With all my curiousity I wanna ask in which way do you find the middle section outstanding?

I hope I didn't sound offensive as I state my perspective. In my point of view I found the middle secton least appealing to me. I've seen a lot of truly amazing techniques used in such a packed section like canon, counterpart and structure repetetion etc, but I still didn't come to like it in terms of simply the sound despite me trying my best. I guess it has a lot of meaning anyway, for me I think it is quite like when chopin's life is in the most dramatic and younger states; it's harmony is quite dark and minor, the canon and circle rounds arc are like how he struggled or kept trying something when he faced serious difficulties.

Chopin's music is masterful as he includes very deep meaning and at the same time beautiful hearing music. The middle section of this piece is no exception for the meaning, but still I didn't really find myself liking how it sounds. As well as I found it quite conflicted to the rest of the piece, it's harmony is individually scaled and the theme didn't really match.

Now I wanna talk about the rest of the parts. I'm absolutely obsessed with all of them, including the main theme and the transition material (A and B). The main theme is a long journey of rememberance, with full of nostalga and memories it's just like rewinding chopin's past life in his ending stage of life. Major and minor mixed to represent bittersweet, but both of them contains happiness and sadness without grudge, only acceptance. The B section is superior. The water-wave like baseline which are never seen in chopin's work better accompanying a simple but beautiful melody, it's 2 melodies with ton of stories singing together. It is like a emotion rollercoaster, rising and falling, just like anyone's life, but despite that big movements, the atmosphere remained a feeling of miss and acceptance again.

Anyways these are my opinions but I would like to hear yours too pleasntly.

that last measure was something i've never heard from chopin before. you expect him to play that final chord again when the last note hits, but he doesn't. he decides to let the melody finish alone. it gives off a vibe of someone who is lonely, but content and happy, that they conclude things on their own accord.

that last bar is also a motif in his barcarolle

That’s exactly how i feel whenever i listen to this Nocturne. It tells me, “ It’s okay... things are gonna be okay...”

Ironically, this is his last published nocturne.

another of his pieces that does the same is the Mazurka in b-flat minor, op.24 no.4

This is the last nocturne published in Chopin's lifetime and has a sad melancholy feeling like he's waving goodbye to the world...

@Timothy karpov those were composed earlier in his life

In my humble opinion, 12-TET is lame.

@Alice Ko "What do you mean?"
You can search these kinds of words on the net.

But again, Wdym?
