Chopin. Raindrop Prelude Op. 28 No. 15. As with all his compositions, Chopin did not give the name to this one himself - rather it had been given to the piece by Chopin's lover, George Sand, while the two were staying at a huge Carthusian monastery in Majorca, an Island off the coast of Spain. According to legend, the monastery (being stuck between rocks and sea) allowed wind and rain inside, causing Chopin's already poor health to deteriorate. Chopin spent a lot of time listening to the repetitive drip-drip-drip of the rain outside, which is said to have inspired the repetitive Ab note throughout the piece. Hope you enjoy this touching performance by SPQ - I hope it's not raining wherever you are, and that you have a beautiful Thursday ♥

it is also said that he composed this piece when he had a dream, where he was dead in a frozen lake, and the drops of water fell on his chest.

Interesting, I had heard a different legend: That he had started the piece by ear while his friends were out for a walk, he stayed behind because he was ill, and suddenly a storm sprang upon the valley and it filled him with fear and melancholly, until at once the storm ended and his friends returned soaking wet & joyous.

@Bosmeroya Perhaps this is why I still love this piece all these years later. Was this the song on that hauntingly beautiful battlefield diorama? The interactive 3d web version of that commercial cemented Halo 3 in my memory forever. I wonder if Bungie knows how much of an effect that diorama and the "Soldiers Reminisce" museum video had on their younger players. It gave me a respect for veterans that I don't think I would have otherwise. It's a shame that I connected more with fantasy than history, but that makes what Bungie did all the more impressive.
