Her first, self-titled album was released in 1997 ("Françoiz Breut"). Her second album was the 2000 "Vingt à Trente Mille Jours" (20 to 30 thousand days); this second album was long awaited by fans, and helped broaden her exposure and appeal internationally. In 2005, "Une saison volée" was released. Most recently, after numerous tours in France and abroad (notably Germany), she released in 2008 her latest album, "à l'aveuglette" (roughly translated as "blindly" -- as in, searching).
She is on numerous compilations (such as the popular "Le Pop" compilation series of "la nouvelle scène française"), and also appears on Calexico's live DVD "World Drifts In: Live at the Barbican" (2004).
By any other name...
The name "Françoiz Breut" is a pseudonym; this name itself was purportedly adopted by Ms. Breut after her original stage name, Françoiz Brrr, was incorrectly reported in the media. (The sound is roughly similar; "Brrr" (or "Breut") would be pronounced like "brew" or "broot".)
La vie devant soi
Françoiz Breut Lyrics

A careless soul
That sings for everyone
When the world closes
A steady blade
Tears the seal
A fallen angel
We can steal
While brushing off the rust
We'll go insane
A beaten dog in anguish
Counts his days
So, come down with me
It's time to leave
Come down with me
I think we outta go
It's time to leave
The song La vie devant soi by Françoiz Breut beautifully encapsulates the feeling of wanting to break free from the mundane aspects of life and explore the unknown. The opening lines of the song, "Fly alone, a careless soul, that sings for everyone when the world closes" suggest that the singer is someone who is at peace with themselves, and in spite of the world's negative influence, they continue to stay true to themselves.
The lines "A steady blade tears the seal, a fallen angel selling secrets we can steal" has a sense of urgency, implying that it is time for them to break away from the mundane and embark on a journey of self-discovery. The metaphor of the blade tearing the seal suggests that the singer is opening up themselves to new ideas, while "fallen angel selling secrets" suggests an act of rebellion against the societal norms.
The following lines "While brushing off the rust, we'll go insane, a beaten dog in anguish counts his days" describe the singer's experience of breaking away and undergoing a transformation. The metaphor of brushing off the rust suggests a state of stagnancy, and by breaking free from their routine life, they will go insane. The phrase "a beaten dog in anguish counts his days" suggests an individual in distress, which could be a commentary on the societal pressures that the singer is trying to break away from.
Overall, Françoiz Breut's song 'La vie devant soi' can be construed as an anthem for individuals who are trying to break free from the shackles of monotony and societal pressures, and in doing so, they embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.
