I
Geggy Tah Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

On an empty old street
A bare naked lady came up to me
And said, "why are you crying?"
I didn't know what to say
Because when she asked me
I forgot.

She wasn't pretty but she was smiling
With her whole body gloriously driving me insane
Because I could not find the words.

Then Big Ben told us it's ten thirty
And we were thirsty standing in the rain.
So we opened our geggys and drank the water,
Better than a soda
We said "tah" for the black clouds.

Bursting in on us screamed a police car,
And a big man got out
And said "Why are you laughing?"
We didn't know what to say
Because when he asked us,
We forgot.

He wrapped her body in an itchy blanket
Though she was happy without any clothes.
So I opened my geggy and told him to let her be.
He clocked me with his billy and took her away. And I waved like the Queen of England
Elbow elbow wrist wrist wrist
Elbow elbow wrist wrist wrist
Elbow elbow wrist wrist wrist

It was just one of those days
When a bare-naked lady came up to me
And said "Why are you crying?"
I didn't know what to say

Because when she asked me
I forgot

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "I" by Geggy Tah describe a seemingly bizarre encounter with a naked lady on an empty street. The singer is approached by the lady who asks him why he is crying, but he couldn't find the words to answer her. Despite her lack of conventional beauty, her smile drives the singer insane, yet he is still unable to express his thoughts. Then Big Ben chimes ten-thirty, and the singer and the naked lady drink water from their "geggys" (a term of unknown origin and meaning), and they enjoy the refreshing drink more than a soda.

Suddenly, a police car interrupts their moment, and a big man gets out of it and asks why they are laughing. The singer didn't have an answer, again unable to articulate his thoughts. The man wraps the naked lady's body in an itchy blanket, despite her being happy without any clothes. The singer opens his geggy (presumably a water bottle) and tells the man to leave the lady alone, but he was hit with a billy club and the lady is taken away. The song ends with the singer waving like the Queen of England, and repeating the refrain about the naked lady asking him why he was crying.

The lyrics of "I" are highly enigmatic and open to interpretation. One possible interpretation is that the song is about communication breakdown; the singer's inability to express himself and his subsequent assault by the police are emblematic of a society that doesn't listen to its members, which creates feelings of loneliness and distress. It's also possible that the song is just a whimsical tale about a surrealist encounter that doesn't have any clear meaning.

All I wanna do is to thank you
Even though I don't know who you are
You let me change lanes
While I was driving in my car
Whoever you are
I wanna thank you who
Now, all I wanna do is to exit
So, I go to where I can get off
On a curve, through the shoulder
There's no parking in that trough
So, I drive around all day
Coming atmospheric haze
Till I wanna get on again
Then all I have to say is
All I wanna do is to thank you
Even though I don't know who you are
You let me change lanes
While I was driving in my car
Whoever you are
I wanna thank you who
All I wanna do is to tune in
Radio L.A. Lujah
'Cause we're broadcasting live
And we wanna hear all of ya
On the mic is Geggy Tah
But a whole lot more of all of ya
Let us hear ya, let us hear ya
In a big echoing holla
All I wanna do is to thank you
Even though I don't know who you are
You let me change lanes
While I was driving in my car
Whoever you are
I wanna thank you who
