He is patient and saves up his pocket change in the piggy bank. One day he is walking down the street and discovers an old Victor Hugo book lying on the sidewalk. He picks it up, and to his delight, Marianne finally finds him attractive. They fall in love, and with all the money they now have, they leave the country and go to a place where money has no value.
The song's meaning is one of hope and perseverance, stressing that patience and hard work can pay off, even if the reward is not what was initially expected. It also reminds us of the power of love and how it can change lives.
