Years Ago
Jimmie Rodgers Lyrics

I was happy, oh so happy
Down in Mississipi way
I was livin' with my papy
Fifteen years ago today

When I left him in the gloamin'
I recall I heard him say
You'll be sorry that you roamin'
Fifteen years ago today
I met a slicker from the city
And he leaved my life astray
How he fooled me was a pity
Fifteen years ago today

He said I could make a fortune
If I did as he would say
But we ended up in prison
Fifteen years ago today

Now I'm sittin' by my own son
For my errors I must pay
I recall I wasn't lonesome
Fifteen years a go today

When you loved performing like Jimmy, you go to the end. He was a brave man and who would know we'd be watching him today on You Tube. The internet is wonderful when used for intertainment like this.

I've always loved Jimmie Rodgers' music. I really like "I've got the old TB Blues" which is my favorite Jimmie Rodgers' song. Just wish they had a cure for TB back in the 1930's and he could have recorded many more songs especially about trains since he referred to himself as the "singing brakeman". RIP my brother.

Rusty I just found out they didn't have an antibiotic cure for tb until Nov of 1944! My brother and mother got tb before my birth luckily they were both cured without relapse!

imagining what must have been going through his mind knowing he was about to die...makes this song really sad and somehow mesmerizing

me & you

Well i imagine he felt like George Harrison did when george knew he was going to dies in his last recording session George even wrote a song how he knew he was going to die and thanked all us beatle fans as well as his family great song but i hate to listen to it too sad. " Stuck inside a cloud"
