Born to an Argentine mother and an American father, he lived most of his childhood in the San Francisco Bay Area, but moved with his family to Buenos Aires at the age of 12.
Johansen made a brief appearance in the local rock scene with the band Instrucción Cívica in the 80s (only album Obediencia Debida in 1985), but went to New York in 1990. There he met and married his Argentine wife, with whom he has a daughter. He played in the CBGB's club for long years, until he created a group, and in 2000 recorded the album with the same name, The Nada, a mix of different Latin sounds with modern pop, funk and rock.
During the same year, and with the new album in his hands, he returned to Argentina, where he currently lives. The album was relatively successful and Kevin and the group went on tour as far as Spain.
By the end of 2002 Johansen recorded Sur o no sur. Again, Kevin surprises with a combination of Latin music, pop, and humour.
During 2003, Kevin became a huge success in Argentina, playing in June at the Gran Rex Theatre, the largest Buenos Aires hall. Again in Spain, he promoted his new album with concerts in Madrid and Barcelona, this time with bigger audiences. He also performed during the MTV Latino awards, from where he continued a concerts tour to Miami, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco prior to the release of the album in United States.
In 2004 he continues with concerts in Mexico, Chile, Belgium and again Spain (now in many different cities) with an even greater response from the people and the media. At the Latino Grammy Awards, Sur o no sur was nominated for "Album of the year", "Song of the year" (La Procesión) and "Best Music Video" (La Procesión).
In between trips, Johansen recorded his third album (relased as Kevin Johansen + The Nada, City Zen, which was well-received both by fans and the media. The cover of his susequent album, Logo, was drawn by cartoonist Liniers.

The song "Daisy" by Kevin Johansen tells the story of a girl named Daisy who likes to look at men and lick her lips, which scares the singer. He doesn't know how she got her powers or where she came from, but he warns others to be careful around her because she eats men. The lyrics suggest that Daisy has been this way since she was young, not playing with dolls but doing what she wants.
The song also references the police ("la yuta") having a file on Daisy, indicating that she may have a criminal record. The singer warns Daisy to run away and start over in a new town, but he promises that he will still visit her wherever she goes.
The lyrics of "Daisy" address themes of sexuality, power, and danger. It portrays Daisy as a woman who takes control of her desires and manipulates men to her will. The imagery of licking her lips and eating men is both sensual and disturbing. The song also comments on society's attitudes towards women who express their sexuality and take control of their lives.

Daisy, she really likes it
She looks and licks it and that's a little scary
I don't know how and I don't know where
She's concealing certain powers
Don't ask me and don't be amazed
Her name is Daisy, The man-eater
Starting at a somewhat early age
You always did whatever she craved
Since he was little, she was little
She did not play with dolls
Daisy, the law is near
They have their eye on you, so you better flee
And since she always does what she wants
In green-light district or red-light district
With no notice, that is is the issue
One starts getting in troubles
Daisy
And when you move to a new town
And start a whole new round
Daisy, we all promise
Wherever you go we'll be soon coming over
I don't know how and I don't know where
She's concealing certain powers
Don't ask me and don't be amazed
Her name is Daisy, The man-eater

Quedó muy bien, al representar otro tiempo, pasó un vendavál, cambiaron muchos temas para bien y sigue representando una poesía, a pesar de algún que otro chiste malo.
