Future Lovers
Madonna Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm gonna tell you about love
Let's forget your life
Forget your problems
Administration, bills, and loans
Come with me

In the evidence of its brilliance
In the evidence of its brilliance
In the evidence of its brilliance
In the evidence of its brilliance

In the demonstration of this evidence
Some have called it religion
This is not a coincidence
Would you like to try?

Connect to the sky
Future lovers ride
Their ambitions high
Would you like to try?
Let me be your guide
Put aside your pride
Future lovers hide
Love inside their eyes

In the evidence of its brilliance
In the evidence of its brilliance
In the evidence of its brilliance
In the evidence of its brilliance

Not controlled by time
Future lovers shine
For eternity
In a world that's free
Put away your past
Love will never last
If you're holding on
To a dream that's gone

I'm gonna tell you about love
Would you like to try?

In the evidence of its brilliance
In the evidence of its brilliance
In the evidence of its brilliance
In the evidence of its brilliance
There's no love like the future love

Come with me

Connect to the sky
Future lovers ride
Their ambitions high
Would you like to try? (In the evidence of its brilliance)
Connect to the sky
Future lovers ride
Their ambitions high
Would you like to try? (In the evidence of its brilliance)
(In the evidence of its brilliance)
Connect to the sky, future lovers ride (in the evidence of its brilliance)
Their ambitions high, would you like to try? (In the evidence of its brilliance)
(In the evidence of its brilliance)
(In the evidence of its brilliance)
(In the evidence of its brilliance)

(In the evidence of its brilliance)

Overall Meaning

The song "Future Lovers" by Madonna is a plea to forget the mundane and uninspiring aspects of life, and instead connect with one's passions and ambitions through love. This is articulated in the opening lines, which urge listeners to abandon the boring aspects of living, such as finances and work etc., in favor of pursuing something greater ("Come with me"). The chorus reinforces this idea by using the metaphor of "future lovers" riding high on their ambitions, and suggests that this is achievable by setting aside one's pride and focusing on love, which will guide them to a brighter future.

There is also a sense of timelessness in this song, as it contrasts the fleeting and transitory nature of worldly concerns with the eternal nature of love. This is emphasized in the line "Not controlled by time / Future lovers shine / For eternity / In a world that's free". The reign of love is not bound by time nor circumstance, and can liberate us from the shackles of our pasts, as suggested by the line "Put away your past / Love will never last / If you're holding on / To a dream that's gone".

Overall, the song encourages listeners to embrace love as a transformative energy, capable of freeing them from their current limitations and propelling them towards new possibilities. It is a call to connect with something greater than ourselves, to transcend the mundane aspects of our lives, and to ride high on the waves of passion and ambition.

There's a reason why this won a Grammy. This is probably the best Pop tour ever made, just the entrance alone is more iconic than any other tour ever made. This is the peak of her career, the most critical and commercial acclaim she had ever received. We're watching a woman at the age of 47 reaching the peak of her (then) 23 year-old career, through hardwork, dedication and commitment, even after the media tried to cancel her multiple times before. Madonna is an example to each and everyone of us. The indisputable, irrefutable and irreplaceable queen of Pop music.

This is extremely well-written.

Well, the peak of her career was in 1990 with her Blond Ambition Tour, she was the most famous person in the planet. And the critical acclaim came with Ray of light in 1998. But this is her best tour though.

@vicentereacts1304

@Ed Flores Yes, I can see an argument for both of your points. Ray Of Light was critically acclaimed and The Immaculate Collection is her best-selling album. But Confessions hit number 1 in +40 markets and Hung Up is both her best-selling song and a Guinnes-record-breaking hit by topping the charts in 45 countries, including the UK, France and Germany. There are only 4 countries that she didn't top the official charts: Japan, Brazil, New Zealand and the US. Meaning that she was literally on top of the world. Sorry would later go on to match the same success, being atop the charts of over 20 countries (including UK) and finish 2006 in the top 5 best selling songs of the year worldwide. As for the acclaim, Confessions On A Dance Floor is her best-evaluated album on Metacritic (tied with Music), with an average score of 80.

I am not disagreeing with you at any point, but I do think Confessions On a Dance Floor is the peak of her career.

@edflores7164

@Vicente Luz Everything is true, but that was possible only because the music market was bigger and globalized. Also Madonna was an artist whose fans buy her music, and that was a time when they still count sales only on the charts. I don't consider Confessions era the top of her career because there were many other artist with more success by that time like Eminem or Shakira with Hips don't lie, even Mariah with We belong together. But Madonna surpassed Michael between 1990 and 1991 and she had no rival then, no one was even close, and that wasn't only about music, she was making scandals all around the globe.

I saw the Confessions Tour together with my Mom in Amsterdam. We stood next to the catwalk and my Mom and I were both in awe. When M. appeared from the mirrorball we both had goosebumps. One of the best nights of my life and one of my dearest memories of me and my Mom. Thank you Madonna.
