viisodagat silbámin
Gulan du dáid váriiguin
Gullen du dáid váriiguin
čiegusvuođa luđiiguin

go gullen du dáid váriiguin
Ja dál
Gulan du dáid váriiguin
čiegusvuođa luđiiguin
čiegusvuođa luđiiguin
čiegusvuođa luđiiguin
Oainnán du buot jogažiin
viisodagat silbámin
viisodagat silbámin

Oainnan du boahtemin
oainnan du boahtemin
oainnan du boathemin
Gulan du dáid váriiguin
gulan du dáid váriiguin
The lyrics of Mari Boine's song "Gulan Du" are written in Northern Sami, a language spoken by the indigenous Sami people from northern Scandinavia, Finland, and Russia. This song carries a mixture of melancholy and hope. The first verse talks about wandering and searching, highlighting that the singer has been going around with nothing but despair and loss. The second verse speaks of rebirth, a starting point where the singer gathers strength to rise again, using experiences and lessons of the past as a source of strength. The repetition of "Gulan Du dáid váriiguin, čiegusvuođa luđiiguin" acts both as a gathering call and a reminder that the singer is no longer alone.

@Cosmikh0bo i love tibetan and mongolian folk songs - after listening to sami music - i feel they send out a similar message telling their life and their beautiful land. I feel their passion for their land through their music.

Lampiart

wow, I have never heard about this cultural separation of Hungarians and Sami - and NA Indians - but it gives a bit of meaning to the fact there are only two languages in Ugrofinnish branch of languages - so exotic to other Europeans...

I've been thinking alot lately about the connection between Saami people and the nomadic cultures in the very central of asia (Tuvan, mongolian, Altai and so forth). The resemblance and the "spirits" are quite close to eachother, not to mention the importance of heritage (As far as i've read and understood about them). Also heard that some old joikhs include overtone singing before the joikh to conjure the right spirits for the song :)

Saamis and Hungarians absolutely look similar. Amazing cultures, and so much to learn!
