Marilou developed interest in the musical world starting at the age of eight when she started dance, music and theater courses. Her first show was made in several of several hundreds of spectators at an annual concert show. She was first discovered in 2001, when she sang a duet with Natasha St-Pier in a Quebec show called Stars à domicile.
Her career started in 2002 when she had her first single Je serai la pour toi in a duo with Canadian Gino Quilico who is the french version of the cover There For Me singing in the original version by Sarah Brightman in duet with José Cura and signed with the Sony label in 2004 before going on a tour opening for Garou.
In 2005, she released at the age of 15 her debut La fille qui chante in which one of the singles includes a duet with Garou. Also, René Angélil, who also manages Celine Dion became her manager. After several concerts and promotions Marilou played in Luc Plamondon's musical comedy Notre-Dame-de-Paris. She started her first own music tour in 2006 while continuing with her high school studies.
In 2007, her self-titled second album was released with the most notable song being Danser sur la lune which includes also a non-Canadian version duet with Merwan Rim. A European version of the album was also released a few months after the Canadian date release. Later in the year, she made her Tout simplement Marilou province wide tour.

Tire-toi (tire-toi)
Avant qu'il ne soit trop tard
Va-t′en, va-t'en
Pour ton salut, ne reste pas
Vas-y et pars
Fuis-la
Tu as peur de la blesser
Tu as peur de l'affecter
Tu as peur, elle est si fragile
Oh, ne te mens pas
Un être humain n′est pas sensible
S′il peut faire autant de mal
Fuis-la
Va-t'en
Trop tard
Fuis-la
Tire-toi
Avant qu′il ne soit trop tard
Va-t'en, va-t′en
Pour ton salut, ne reste pas
Vas-y et pars
Fuis-la
The lyrics of Marilou's "Fuis-la" highlight the emotional turmoil that the singer is going through after being caught in a toxic relationship. The song opens with the singer acknowledging that the singer has gotten himself tangled up in a complicated, emotion-driven experience. The verse's repetition conveys that the singer is warning the singer about the dangers of the relationship, which he is yet to realize, and how he has been trapped into it. The chorus emphasises that the singer should leave and get out of the relationship before it is too late. The second verse reveals that the singer is being controlled and manipulated in the relationship, with his partner having control over everything he does. The singer continues to tell him to leave as the singer considers the situation and his fear of hurting her.
The song's lyrics convey the danger and negative impact of being in a toxic relationship, and the idea of standing up for oneself by leaving such a relationship. The chorus's recurrent phrase, "Fuis-la," translates to "Run away from her." The advice given to the singer is that he needs to prioritize his safety and mental well-being over any fear of hurting someone else. While the verses speak of a relationship, the chorus suggests a sense of urgency in getting out of it, as leaving too late can lead to disastrous results. The repetitive lyrics and catchy tune make the song more accessible to the audience, inspiring them to run from any toxic relationships they find themselves in.
