E violenta
Você gelou o meu olhar
Era num cruzamento
Fazia tempo,
Te pergunte, I o que que há?
Você me disse apenas:
Tudo pra não te procurar
Eu me senti num beco
E disse a seco
Como é que não te vi por lá?
Eu já quis morrer
Eu já quis matar
Tudo por alguém
Que não sabe amar
Eu analiso tudo
E me pergunto
Quero a verdade
Ou quero amar?
É beira do abismo,
Queira ou não queira,
Estamos prestes a voar
The lyrics of Marina Lima's song Prestes a Voar deal with themes of love, pain, and self-inquiry. The opening lines set the scene for a violent and transformative experience, as the singer's gaze is frozen by a violet and violent afternoon encounter with someone they love. The setting is a crossroads, a place of decision and uncertainty, where the singer asks the other person what is going on. The other person replies cryptically that they have been to hell, just to avoid looking for the singer.
The ensuing conversation takes place in a metaphorical alley, where the singer realizes that they have missed their chance to connect with the other person. The chorus expresses the singer's ambivalence towards life, love, and the truth. They have experienced intense emotions, to the point of wanting to die or kill, but now they are trying to understand their situation with a cold eye. The question at the center of the chorus is whether they want the truth or love, implying that the two may be incompatible or mutually exclusive. The final image of the song is that of being on the edge of an abyss, poised to fly, which can be read as a metaphor for either falling into despair or taking a leap of faith.
Overall, the lyrics of Prestes a Voar are evocative and emotionally charged, using powerful metaphors to convey a sense of urgency and confusion. The theme of missed opportunities and unrequited love is relatable to many listeners, while the philosophical undertones of the chorus add a layer of complexity and ambiguity. The song invites interpretation and reflection, as well as appreciation for Marina Lima's poetic skills and expressive voice.

You only told me
Fui ao inferno,
I went to hell
Tudo pra não te procurar
Just so I wouldn't look for you
Eu me senti num beco
I felt trapped
E disse a seco
And bluntly said
Como é que não te vi por lá?
How come I didn't see you there?
Eu já quis morrer
I already wanted to die
Eu já quis matar
I already wanted to kill
Tudo por alguém
All for someone
Que não sabe amar
Who doesn't know how to love

I analyze everything
E me pergunto
And ask myself
Quero a verdade
Do I want the truth
Ou quero amar?
Or do I want to love?

At the edge of the abyss
Queira ou não queira,
Like it or not
Estamos prestes a voar
We're about to fly
