She was born in Avignon, Vaucluse, France, the oldest daughter of a poor family of fourteen children. She began singing as a small child, appearing in public at the age of four, singing in her church. As a young girl she worked in a factory, where she saved her money to pay for singing lessons.
Discovered by Johnny Stark, manager of France's biggest star at the time, Johnny Hallyday, she was tutored by orchestra leader Paul Mauriat and song writer André Pascal who wrote "Mon crédo", "Viens dans ma rue", "La première étoile" and many other hits for her . After her television performance in 1965 and debut run at the Paris Olympia, she was immediately hailed as the next Édith Piaf, such was her haunting voice.
Singles such as "Mon Credo" and "C'est Ton Nom" made her a huge star in France and all over Europe while making her a big success in North America and Mexico. Her French cover of Engelbert Humperdinck's "The Last Waltz" generated much publicity in Great Britain and with hit after hit, she soon toured Canada and the United States where she appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and the Danny Kaye Show. In Las Vegas, she sang with Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra to great applause.
Still much in demand, she continues to perform regularly. She travels frequently, appearing at such venues as New York City's Carnegie Hall, Sport Palace in Montreal, Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles and Ice Palace of St. Petersburg. She has sold about 150 million copies of her albums in her 40 year career, recorded about 1200 songs in 9 languages, and was the first western singer in history who gave concerts in China. Over the years she sang duets with such luminaries as Charles Aznavour, Barry Manilow, Paul Anka, Plácido Domingo, Julio Iglesias, Tom Jones and others.
Songs such as "Acropolis adieu," "Ne me quitte pas," and "Santa Maria de la mer," are considered classics. Her French version of Roy Orbison's ballad, "Blue Bayou", is regarded by many as one of the best covers of that popular song.
In 1989, President François Mitterrand invited Mireille Mathieu to sing a tribute to General de Gaulle. She gave a series of concerts at the Palais des Congrès in Paris in December 1990. Three years later, she released an album devoted to her all-time idol, Édith Piaf.
In January 1996, "Vous lui direz…" was released. Maxime le Forestier wrote one of the titles, "A la moitié de la distance". She did not choose to perform live in France to promote the album, preferring rather to go to Los Angeles USA, where she triumphed on November 14th with her vibrant tribute to another of her idols, Judy Garland. The performance was a tremendous success she was dressed by Provence couturier, Christian Lacroix and looked stunning for the performance. [1]
In 2002, she released her 37th French album De tes mains. Mathieu celebrated the 40th anniversary of her career at the Paris Olympia, in November 2005, after releasing her 38th French album, which reached number 14 on the charts in France (it remained in the top 100 for several months).
Et Je T'Aime

Je t'aime, et je te vois partir
Sans savoir où tu vas
Ni si tu reviendras
Et les mots que je dis
Tu les perds dans la nuit
Et moi, je reste là
Je suis seule loin de toi
Je t'aime, et je te vois partir
Dans la ville endormie
Tu rejoins tes amis
Je ne sais rien de toi
Qui tu es, d'où tu viens
Ni pourquoi tu t'en vas
Ni pourquoi tu reviens
Pourtant c'est toi que j'aime
Si tu le demandais
Ma vie que je promène
Je te la donnerais
Mais que Dieu te protège
Si un jour tu t'en vas
Oui, que Dieu te protège
J'ai tant besoin de toi
Je t'aime, je t'aime à en mourir
Je t'aime, et je te vois partir
Sans savoir où tu vas
Ni si tu reviendras
Mais pourtant quelquefois
Quand tu crois que je dors
Tu me prends dans tes bras
Et ton cœur bat si fort
Je t'aime, je t'aime à en mourir…
Je t'aime, je t'aime à en mourir…
Je t'aime, je t'aime à en mourir…
Je t'aime, je t'aime à en mourir…
In Mireille Mathieu's song "Je t'aime", the lyrics express a love that is both passionate and tumultuous. The singer is hopelessly in love with the person they are addressing and can't imagine life without them. The repetition of "Je t'aime à en mourir" drives home the intensity of the love that the singer feels, and their fear that they may not be able to survive without their beloved. The second line of each verse, "Je t'aime, et je te vois partir" adds to the feeling of desperation, as the singer feels powerless and vulnerable to their loved one's whims.
The song describes a relationship in which the singer knows very little about the person they love. They don't know where their beloved is going, or why they're leaving, but they remain devoted nonetheless. The line "Et les mots que je dis, tu les perds dans la nuit" suggests a communication breakdown between the two, as if their words are not enough to bridge the distance between them. The final verse offers a glimmer of hope, as the singer describes a moment when they feel close to their loved one, even though they may not be fully present.
Overall, "Je t'aime" is a song about the depth and complexity of love, and the ways in which it can bring both joy and pain.

Je t'aime, je t'aime à en mourir
I love you so much that it hurts me, it's killing me
Je t'aime, et je te vois partir
I love you, but I see you leaving
Sans savoir où tu vas
Without knowing where you're going
Ni si tu reviendras
Or if you'll ever come back
Et les mots que je dis
And the words that I speak
Tu les perds dans la nuit
You lose them in the night
Et moi, je reste là
And I'm just left here
Je suis seule loin de toi
Feeling alone and far from you
Dans la ville endormie
In the quiet, sleeping town
Tu rejoins tes amis
You're going to meet your friends
Je ne sais rien de toi
But I don't really know anything about you
Qui tu es, d'où tu viens
Who you are, where you come from
Ni pourquoi tu t'en vas
Or why you're leaving
Ni pourquoi tu reviens
Or why you're coming back
Pourtant c'est toi que j'aime
Yet it's you that I love
Si tu le demandais
If you were to ask me
Ma vie que je promène
I would give you my life
Je te la donnerais
If you asked for it
Mais que Dieu te protège
But I pray that God will protect you
Si un jour tu t'en vas
If one day you leave
Oui, que Dieu te protège
Yes, may God protect you
J'ai tant besoin de toi
I need you so much
Mais pourtant quelquefois
But sometimes
Quand tu crois que je dors
When you think I'm sleeping
Tu me prends dans tes bras
You hold me in your arms
Et ton coeur bat si fort
And your heart beats so strongly
Je t'aime, je t'aime à en mourir…
I love you so much that it hurts me…
Je t'aime, je t'aime à en mourir…
I love you so much that it hurts me…
Je t'aime, je t'aime à en mourir…
I love you so much that it hurts me…
Je t'aime, je t'aime à en mourir…
I love you so much that it hurts me…

I hear the music
Coming from a romantic piano
And I love you
I hear this tune that has won the world
In a few quarter notes in a few rounds
And I love you
The ballad that a lover had invented
For the beauty who hesitated to love him
I hear the music
Who produced the magic effect
And I love you
I hear this message written for another
It's like he's ours
And I love you
The ballad that a lover went to look for
For the beauty who ended up loving him
I hear the music
Coming from a romantic piano
And I love you
I hear this tune that has won the world
In a few quarter notes in a few rounds
And I love you
I hear that tune that changed the world
For you and me in three seconds
And i love you and i love you and i love you

You just ran in your church!
You did not walk in your church!
You just made your loud noise in the church!
You did not have to be quiet in the church!
You just dropped your food on the floor!
You just threw your food on the floor!
You just saw your friend's food in the kitchen!
You just stole your food from your friends in the kitchen!
You just started to punch your friends in the church!
You just started to kick your friends in the church!
You just started to hit your friends in the church!
You just fought with your friends in the church!
You just took your clothes off in front of the friends in the church!
You just started to put your feet up on the big table in the classroom!
You did not take your feet down off the big table in the classroom!
You did not keep your feet down on the floor!
You did not stay in your seat and you just got up off your chair in the classroom!
