Najwa Karam Lyrics

The opening verse of Najwa Karam's song "Mawal" is a repetitive chant of "Ya Mejana," which essentially means "Oh our source of strength and beauty." This chant is repeated several times as a sort of call-and-response between the singer and her listeners. The verse goes on to poetically state that all eyes are the eyes of the songstress and her audience.
The second verse is where the narrative comes into focus. The singer laments the loss of a lover and claims that after their love ended, she has never been the same. The use of the term "el hawa," which translates to "the wind," is a common metaphor in Arabic music for the concept of love or infatuation. The singer may feel blown about by the turbulence of her emotions after the dissolution of the relationship. She questions how the wind of love could have traveled with her to her destination, and yet, she managed to arrive alone.
The final section of the song sees Najwa Karam in a moment of introspection. She admits to having been a hard and bitter person, but the love of a specific person has somehow melted away her defenses. She sees this person as the only one who can provide her with genuine affection and care. The repetition of the phrase "ya waili," which roughly translates to "woe is me," is an expression of the singer's vulnerability and the depth of her need for this person's love.

Love said, oh desire, how did they bring it upon me?

And after your love, I haven't seen anyone else
He said, I used to stab myself
