Don't Kwon Why
Norah Jones Lyrics

I don't know why I didn't come
I left you by the house of fun
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
When I saw the break of day
I wished that I could fly away
Catching teardrops in my hand
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever
Out across the endless sea
I would die in ecstasy
But I'll be a bag of bones
Driving down the road alone
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever
Something has to make you run
I don't know why I didn't come
I feel as empty as a drum
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
The song Don by Norah Jones is a beautifully melancholic tune about a love that was never fully realized. The lyrics appear to be from the perspective of someone who is wishing they had done things differently in a past relationship. They are regretful and mournful about the fact that they didn't act upon their feelings, and as a result, the love was lost.
The first two lines set the tone for the rest of the song, as Norah sings "I waited 'til I saw the sun / I don't know why I didn't come." This could indicate a multitude of things, such as the person waiting for a specific moment to confess their love or waiting until it was too late to make amends. The next two lines, "I left you by the house of fun / I don't know why I didn't come," suggest that the singer may have abandoned the relationship or missed out on a chance to be with the person they loved.
The chorus, "My heart is drenched in wine / But you'll be on my mind / Forever," emphasizes the feelings of heartache and longing the character experiences. The use of the metaphor of wine suggests that the singer is trying to numb the pain of the lost love, but is ultimately unsuccessful. The repetition of "I don't know why I didn't come" throughout the song emphasizes the singer's sense of regret and confusion for not acting on their feelings.
Overall, the song conveys a deep sense of sorrow and loss, highlighting the reality that sometimes in life, we miss our opportunities and are unable to turn back the clock.
