L'électricité
Pascal Obispo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

On se ressemble
Nos pôles
Sont les mêmes
A 220 volts
Tu sais trop bien
Ce que ça nous donne
Surfer sur les larmes
Sur les courants
Ne nous mène à rien
Autant glisser
Les doigts dedans

(Refrain :)

Overall Meaning

In Pascal Obispo's song L'électricité, the singer compares the intensity of his relationship with someone to electricity. The opening lines of the song state that despite whatever differences they may have, they are very much alike as their poles are the same and they both run on 220 volts. The electricity in their relationship is intense, as if they are surfing on the waves of their own tears and emotions. However, Obispo warns that this intensity will lead to nothing and instead suggests that they let themselves slip into the current of the electricity between them.

The chorus of the song repeats the word "electricity" several times, reinforcing the idea that this is the driving force behind their relationship. There are sparks and flashes of light - perhaps indicative of the chemistry and passion between the two. The electricity they feel is strange but desirable, as it sets them apart from others and gives them a unique connection. The second verse suggests that the electricity is felt in the smallest places, igniting the senses and causing shivery reactions. The singer uses the metaphor of electroshock therapy to describe the jolt that the electricity provides, and even though it can be jarring, it's worth it to feel that spark between them.
