Idle Gossip
Perry Como Lyrics

With idle gossip
Should they say our love through
That's idle gossip
Let the rumors come and go
We'll prove to everyone
We still carry on as though
Now and then let's stop and kiss
When we love walking
Someones sure to notice this
And they'll start talking
In their idle gossip
They may say that I love you
And this time idle gossip will be true
In their idle gossip
They may say that I love you
And this time idle gossip
Will be true
In Perry Como's song "Idle Gossip," the lyrics touch on the idea that people often spread rumors and gossip that may not be true. The song's primary message is about proving those rumors wrong and overcoming them through the power of love. Como's lyrics encourage the listener to ignore those rumors and focus on their love by carrying on with their love affair as if it's just begun. Even if people may notice when they stop and kiss, it is important to continue on with their love regardless of the comments others may make.
The lyrics to "Idle Gossip" illustrate the idea of staying true to oneself and not letting rumors spread by others get in the way of a relationship. The lyrics suggest that the best way to prove such rumors wrong is to ignore them altogether and focus on the bond between two people. The song's message is clear: stay true to yourself and your love, and do not let idle gossip get in the way of your relationship.

Friends may often come to you
People you know may approach you
With idle gossip
with vague or baseless rumors
Should they say our love through
If they claim our love is over
That's idle gossip
it's just more unsubstantiated rumor
Let the rumors come and go
We shouldn't worry about what others say
We'll prove to everyone
our actions will speak louder than words
We still carry on as though
we continue as before
Our love affair has just begun
as if our love is fresh and new
Now and then let's stop and kiss
take moments to show our love
When we love walking
as we take walks together
Someone's sure to notice this
People are likely to observe us
And they'll start talking
they'll begin to gossip
In their idle gossip
In their unsubstantiated rumors
They may say that I love you
they might make that claim
And this time idle gossip will be true
But this time, it will actually be the truth.

a big favorite of mine, reminds me of my nan..and growing up visiting her house in the 60s..noticed she had a stack of old 78s and this was amongst them..it was a regular play.. got a copy as soon as i started collecting 78s in the mid to late 80s
