The lyrics to Pierangelo Bertoli's song "Fiato corto" depict a journey with a sense of restlessness, confusion, and the struggle to find meaning in life. The singer follows a path that seems to have no direction and moves with someone else, without thinking of themselves. The sea is used as an allegory to describe the ups and downs of life, and how the tides can change suddenly, leaving one lost and disoriented. The singer describes himself as deaf to the legends of the sea, meaning that he is not paying attention to the advice of older people or traditional knowledge.
The second stanza talks about how they are like boxers who are out of breath, fighting within the same routine of life. The theme of transience and impermanence is emphasized by the idea of living in a temporary world where moments of serenity, sensations of freedom are fleeting. The history that the singer belongs to is a minor one, and they are foreigners in the city, unsure of what the future holds. The lyrics paint a picture of a person searching for their own sense of identity in a world that is constantly changing.
