Forming of the band and first two albums:
Rebellion is a Heavy Metal band from Germany. It was formed in 2001 by ex-Grave Digger members Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Göttlich (bass).
Their first album - A Tragedy In Steel - Shakespeare's Macbeth - is a concept album about William Shakespeare's work Macbeth and includes spoken passages. Spoken passages and narrations are done by members of the band and other collaborators as the story's characters.
The second album called Born A Rebel involved more standard heavy-metal lyrics – about motorcycles, metal, war, etc. – and the music was somewhat rougher.
Viking Trilogy:
In 2005 they released the first part of a trilogy about the Vikings and Norse mythology. First part is called 'Sagas Of Iceland'. As title suggests, lyrics are about viking sagas.
The second part 'Miklagard' is out in 2007. Speed, powerful and heavy guitar riffs repleaced middle tempo songs of the previous album. Lyricalwise, album is about pack of vikings who left their homeland, Sweden, to travel to Miklagard. Every song talks about another adventure they took along the way.
Third and final album - "Arise: From Ginnugagap To Ragnarök" - came out in 2009. Musicaly it's rougher and heavier than the previous two. Lyrics are about Norse mythology, from conception of the world (Ginnugagap) to its final battle (Ragnarök) and finally, its destruction.
Changes in the band:
Uwe Lulis, Simone Wenzel and Gerd Lücking all left the band in late 2010. Michael Seifert and Tomi Göttlich were the only remaining members at the time. In 2011 new line-up was forming. The first new member who joined them was Oliver Geibig on guitar. Oliver worked with the band before - he produced their second album. Later on Stephan Karut joined the band on guitar and David Faifer on drums. David soon left the band because he lived too far from the band and Matthias Karle took his spot. With that final change new strong line-up was formed and soon they entered the studio to record a new album.
Arminius:
The sixth studio album titled Arminius: Furor Teutonicus, with new line-up, was released on October 26th, 2012. Arminius is another conceptual piece and this time, as album title says, album is based on Arminius. Arminius was a chieftain of the Germanic Cherusci who defeated a Roman army in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

Asgard
Rebellion Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ash tree of life
Keep in balance
The worlds as apart they strife
Yggdrasil
Rooted deep in Jotunheim
In Nilfheim near Hyergelmir
Oh Asgard where Gods dwell
As the ancient Sagas tell
Bifrost cross may those who die
Where valkyries fly
Oh Asgard and Gladsheim
Hope to see it in my time
Passing Heimdall as I die
Where Valkyries fly
Walhalla
Heroes who are gone
Fight and drink each day anew
Till Ragnarök may come
Walhalla
The Einherjars' home
Reliving battle's glory
The armies of Asgard
The lyrics to Rebellion's song Asgard revolve around the Nordic mythology and specifically, the World Tree Yggdrasil. The World Tree holds great significance in the Nordic mythology as it serves as a representation of the cycle of life and death, connecting different realms of existence. The first stanza of the lyrics refers to the Ash tree of Life, which is Yggdrasil, that holds the balance of the worlds that exist in the mythology.
The second stanza explains how Yggdrasil is rooted deep in Jotunheim - the land of giants, Nilfheim - the world of freezing mist and ice, and Gladsheim in Asgard - the realm of the gods. The following stanzas acknowledge Asgard and Gladsheim as the dwells of the gods, where the Valkyries fly and the heroes spend their afterlife in Walhalla, reliving their battles glory until Ragnarok - the end of the world according to the Nordic mythology.
The lyrics to Rebellion's song Asgard express strong reverence for the Nordic mythology and the concept of life, death, and rebirth. The song speaks of a world filled with gods, heroes, and Valkyries, where the afterlife is spent in reliving glories and waiting for the end of the world.
