Forming of the band and first two albums:
Rebellion is a Heavy Metal band from Germany. It was formed in 2001 by ex-Grave Digger members Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Göttlich (bass).
Their first album - A Tragedy In Steel - Shakespeare's Macbeth - is a concept album about William Shakespeare's work Macbeth and includes spoken passages. Spoken passages and narrations are done by members of the band and other collaborators as the story's characters.
The second album called Born A Rebel involved more standard heavy-metal lyrics – about motorcycles, metal, war, etc. – and the music was somewhat rougher.
Viking Trilogy:
In 2005 they released the first part of a trilogy about the Vikings and Norse mythology. First part is called 'Sagas Of Iceland'. As title suggests, lyrics are about viking sagas.
The second part 'Miklagard' is out in 2007. Speed, powerful and heavy guitar riffs repleaced middle tempo songs of the previous album. Lyricalwise, album is about pack of vikings who left their homeland, Sweden, to travel to Miklagard. Every song talks about another adventure they took along the way.
Third and final album - "Arise: From Ginnugagap To Ragnarök" - came out in 2009. Musicaly it's rougher and heavier than the previous two. Lyrics are about Norse mythology, from conception of the world (Ginnugagap) to its final battle (Ragnarök) and finally, its destruction.
Changes in the band:
Uwe Lulis, Simone Wenzel and Gerd Lücking all left the band in late 2010. Michael Seifert and Tomi Göttlich were the only remaining members at the time. In 2011 new line-up was forming. The first new member who joined them was Oliver Geibig on guitar. Oliver worked with the band before - he produced their second album. Later on Stephan Karut joined the band on guitar and David Faifer on drums. David soon left the band because he lived too far from the band and Matthias Karle took his spot. With that final change new strong line-up was formed and soon they entered the studio to record a new album.
Arminius:
The sixth studio album titled Arminius: Furor Teutonicus, with new line-up, was released on October 26th, 2012. Arminius is another conceptual piece and this time, as album title says, album is based on Arminius. Arminius was a chieftain of the Germanic Cherusci who defeated a Roman army in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

I see you shining in the sun
My destiny lies within these walls
Oh Miklagard
The golden roofs of Miklagard
I see you shining in the sun
My destiny lies within these walls
I saw you in my fever dreams
Mighty walls of shining grace
From a different world it seems
A golden glimmer on my face
Across the lands across the sea
I've travelled far I will succeed
Now I am passing through your gate
Within these walls there lies my fate
The golden roofs of Miklagard
I see you shining in the sun
My destiny lies within these walls
Oh Miklagard
Palaces of gold and stone
The riches of the world for trade
A harbour larger than the fjords at home
A city that the gods have made
From the lands of ice I came
To Miklagard for honour and fame
One of the emperor's guard to be
Varangian truth for all to see
The golden roofs of Miklagard
I see you shining in the sun
My destiny lies within these walls
Oh Miklagard
The song "Miklagard" by Rebellion speaks of the city of Byzantium (now known as Istanbul) in Turkey, which was also known as Miklagard during the Viking era. The song expresses awe and admiration for the city's golden roofs shining in the sun, and a sense of destiny for the singer lying within its walls. The lyrics also refer to the city's palaces of gold and stone, riches for trade, and a harbour larger than the fjords of home, depicting the grandeur of the city. The singer speaks of coming from the lands of ice to Miklagard, seeking honor and fame by becoming one of the emperor's guard, the Varangian Guard.
The lyrics of the song could be interpreted in different ways, such as a celebration of the grandeur of a city, a desire for adventure and glory, or a longing for a mythical golden age. The golden roofs and palaces could be seen as symbols of wealth and power, while the singer's destiny within the walls of the city suggests a sense of purpose or fulfillment. The mention of the Varangian Guard also indicates a connection between the northern Viking culture and the Eastern Roman Empire, which adds a historical context to the song.
