Forming of the band and first two albums:
Rebellion is a Heavy Metal band from Germany. It was formed in 2001 by ex-Grave Digger members Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Göttlich (bass).
Their first album - A Tragedy In Steel - Shakespeare's Macbeth - is a concept album about William Shakespeare's work Macbeth and includes spoken passages. Spoken passages and narrations are done by members of the band and other collaborators as the story's characters.
The second album called Born A Rebel involved more standard heavy-metal lyrics – about motorcycles, metal, war, etc. – and the music was somewhat rougher.
Viking Trilogy:
In 2005 they released the first part of a trilogy about the Vikings and Norse mythology. First part is called 'Sagas Of Iceland'. As title suggests, lyrics are about viking sagas.
The second part 'Miklagard' is out in 2007. Speed, powerful and heavy guitar riffs repleaced middle tempo songs of the previous album. Lyricalwise, album is about pack of vikings who left their homeland, Sweden, to travel to Miklagard. Every song talks about another adventure they took along the way.
Third and final album - "Arise: From Ginnugagap To Ragnarök" - came out in 2009. Musicaly it's rougher and heavier than the previous two. Lyrics are about Norse mythology, from conception of the world (Ginnugagap) to its final battle (Ragnarök) and finally, its destruction.
Changes in the band:
Uwe Lulis, Simone Wenzel and Gerd Lücking all left the band in late 2010. Michael Seifert and Tomi Göttlich were the only remaining members at the time. In 2011 new line-up was forming. The first new member who joined them was Oliver Geibig on guitar. Oliver worked with the band before - he produced their second album. Later on Stephan Karut joined the band on guitar and David Faifer on drums. David soon left the band because he lived too far from the band and Matthias Karle took his spot. With that final change new strong line-up was formed and soon they entered the studio to record a new album.
Arminius:
The sixth studio album titled Arminius: Furor Teutonicus, with new line-up, was released on October 26th, 2012. Arminius is another conceptual piece and this time, as album title says, album is based on Arminius. Arminius was a chieftain of the Germanic Cherusci who defeated a Roman army in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

The king says I must go
Some neighbours asked a fight with me
And I laid their bodies low
Now my face is in the wind again
And friends are by my side
The green land we are looking for
Come join me now I know the way,
(We'll be free!)
No king to rule us down
(Ride the sea!)
Man the boats and hoist the sails,
(All hands on deck!)
There's land to find I know,
(Don't look back!)
Through the wind and storm I'll carry on
To a new land where the sun will dawn
In the wind and storm I'll raise my head
Eric the Red
My son I see the fire in your eyes
As I felt when I was young
And I've listened to the Skalds and tales, you've gotta go as I have done
But it's your way Leif Eriksson,
The Red has come too old
The Vinland you will find I know,
Ride the wind be strong and bold
Come join me now I know the way,
(We'll be free!)
No king to rule us down
(Ride the sea!)
Man the boats and hoist the sails,
(All hands on deck!)
There's land to find I know,
(Don't look back!)
Through the wind and storm I'll carry on
To a new land where the sun will dawn
In the wind and storm I'll raise my head
Eric the Red
The song “Eric the Red” by Rebellion is a tribute to the great Viking explorer Erik Thorvaldsson, also known as Erik the Red who discovered Greenland. The song begins with Erik being banished from Iceland by King Harald as he killed his neighbors in a fight. Erik sets sail towards a new land with his friends, trusting in Odin’s might and searching for Greenland. He invites others to join him in his quest for freedom from kings and rulers, allowing them to become independent and rule themselves.
The chorus emphasizes the challenges and resilience required to survive the stormy seas and attain a new land. The singer emphasizes how through the wind and storm, he will carry on to a new land where the sun will dawn. The second verse shows that Erik has grown old and it is now his son Leif Eriksson’s turn to discover new lands, mainly Vinland. The song emphasizes the Viking's sense of adventure, courage and their ability to endure hardship while facing new challenges and discovering new lands.
