Forming of the band and first two albums:
Rebellion is a Heavy Metal band from Germany. It was formed in 2001 by ex-Grave Digger members Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Göttlich (bass).
Their first album - A Tragedy In Steel - Shakespeare's Macbeth - is a concept album about William Shakespeare's work Macbeth and includes spoken passages. Spoken passages and narrations are done by members of the band and other collaborators as the story's characters.
The second album called Born A Rebel involved more standard heavy-metal lyrics – about motorcycles, metal, war, etc. – and the music was somewhat rougher.
Viking Trilogy:
In 2005 they released the first part of a trilogy about the Vikings and Norse mythology. First part is called 'Sagas Of Iceland'. As title suggests, lyrics are about viking sagas.
The second part 'Miklagard' is out in 2007. Speed, powerful and heavy guitar riffs repleaced middle tempo songs of the previous album. Lyricalwise, album is about pack of vikings who left their homeland, Sweden, to travel to Miklagard. Every song talks about another adventure they took along the way.
Third and final album - "Arise: From Ginnugagap To Ragnarök" - came out in 2009. Musicaly it's rougher and heavier than the previous two. Lyrics are about Norse mythology, from conception of the world (Ginnugagap) to its final battle (Ragnarök) and finally, its destruction.
Changes in the band:
Uwe Lulis, Simone Wenzel and Gerd Lücking all left the band in late 2010. Michael Seifert and Tomi Göttlich were the only remaining members at the time. In 2011 new line-up was forming. The first new member who joined them was Oliver Geibig on guitar. Oliver worked with the band before - he produced their second album. Later on Stephan Karut joined the band on guitar and David Faifer on drums. David soon left the band because he lived too far from the band and Matthias Karle took his spot. With that final change new strong line-up was formed and soon they entered the studio to record a new album.
Arminius:
The sixth studio album titled Arminius: Furor Teutonicus, with new line-up, was released on October 26th, 2012. Arminius is another conceptual piece and this time, as album title says, album is based on Arminius. Arminius was a chieftain of the Germanic Cherusci who defeated a Roman army in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.

Taste of Steel
Rebellion Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Wild horses race where dragons lay
Arrows dense and deadly fall
Valkyrias ride as death will call
We turn the boat for shelter now
Arrows knocking on her bough
Wave after wave shot after shot
Save your blood
To grant a taste of steel
My Petschenegan friends
[Chorus:]
Are you hungry for blood
Well I shall feed you steel
Ground your face in the mud
A taste of taste of steel
Do you move for the kill
Well I shall feed you steel
Feel the battle's thrill
A taste of taste of steel
Dismounted now with battle cry
Petschenegans time to die
Face to face and steel to steel
How does the Norsemen's anger feel
Cut and slice for blood and gore
You want my life what is the score
Here I stand you cowards come
Or trust your heels the living run
Trust your heels
To fight another day
My Petschenegan friends
[Chorus x3]
The lyrics of Rebellion's song "Taste of Steel" speak about a battle between two groups of warriors – the Snake Eyed warriors and the Petschenegans. The scene is set with wild horses racing where dragons lay, and dense and deadly arrows falling from above. The Valkyrias ride, awaiting the call of death. The Snake Eyed warriors turn their boat to seek shelter from the battle, as arrows knock on the bough. The chorus speaks of feeding the enemy "steel" instead of blood, with a taste of it in their mouths. The ground is where the enemy belongs, with their face in the mud.
The second verse talks about the dismounted Snake Eyed warriors facing off with the Petschenegans, ready to fight to the death. The Norsemen's anger is palpable as they cut and slice for blood and gore. The Petschenegans are called cowards, and the only choices presented are to fight or run. In both cases, the Norsemen will have the upper hand.
The song's theme is the glory that comes with battle, emphasizing the Norsemen's bravery and willingness to face death in combat. By feeding the enemy steel, they show their superiority and superiority in the art of war. The song does not glorify war itself but the courage displayed by warriors. It speaks of standing firm even in the face of death, and fearlessly pursuing victory.
