Career
Jurado began performing flamenco at a very young age, debuting on the big screen in 1962 with Los guerrilleros, acting alongside Manolo Escobar. She also played a main role in 1966's Proceso a una estrella and 1971's Una chica casi decente. While temporarily living in Argentina, the Spanish diva participated in a successful musical called La zapatera prodigiosa, based on Federico García Lorca's work. After teaming with composer Manuel Alejandro, Rocío Jurado became a major and beloved figure on the Latin music scene, acclaimed throughout America and Spain after releasing Muera el amor and Señora, among other hits.

A Ti

Que estoy atada solo a ti,
Aunque me cueste ser sincera.
Pienso que casi no sé ni lo que sé,
Si fui una santa si pequé
Si te aborrezco aunque te quiera.
Si fui adelante o hacia atrás,
Si he sido falsa o verdadera,
Mientras duerme estoy
Pensando en lo de siempre
En que estará soñando ahora
Al fin y al cabo que mas da
A ti.
A ti, ahora que estoy pensando en ti
Que estoy atada solo a ti,
Aunque me cueste ser sincera.
Mientras duerme estoy
Pensando en lo de siempre
En que estará soñando ahora
Al fin y al cabo que mas da
A ti.
The song "A Ti" by Rocio Jurado is a beautiful ballad that explores the complexities of love, doubt, and regret. The song's narrator is reflecting on her relationship with her lover, addressing him directly through the lyrics. The central theme of the song is the struggle to reconcile conflicting emotions and determine the true nature of love.
The opening lines of the song set the tone for the entire piece. The singer is consumed with thoughts of her lover and confesses that she is bound to him despite any doubts or misgivings she may have. She then proceeds to question her own past actions and intentions, wondering if she was a saint or a sinner, and if her feelings toward her lover were genuine or false. The lyrics suggest a sense of confusion and self-doubt, as the singer struggles to make sense of her emotions and experiences.
The chorus of the song is a powerful expression of regret and longing. The singer laments the lost opportunity for love with her partner, acknowledging that the two of them were unable to overcome their doubts and fears. Her reflections on what might have been convey a sense of sadness and melancholy that is both beautiful and poignant.
Overall, "A Ti" is a touching and introspective song that charts the emotional territory of love and loss. Its themes of doubt, regret, and longing are universal and timeless, and the beauty of Rocio Jurado's voice elevates the lyrics to something truly transcendent.

I think I almost don't know what I know
Si fui una santa si pequé

Tú dirás si hice de menos o de mas
You'll say whether I did too little or too much
Si fui adelante o hacia atrás,
If I moved forward or backwards
Si he sido falsa o verdadera,
If I've been false or true.
Que se yo, si heche al amor o él se marchó
Who knows if I threw love away or if it left on its own

If I looked for a yes and found a no
Quien de los dos fue responsable.
Who of the two was responsible.
(estribillo)
(Chorus)
Verás, todo empezó porque dudé
You see, it all started because I doubted
Dudé de ti, dudé de mi
I doubted you, I doubted myself
De lo visible y lo invisible,
Of the visible and the invisible
Ya lo ves creció despacio entre los dos
As you can see, it grew slowly between us
La cordillera del rencor
The mountain range of resentment
Con su lareda inaccesible,
With its inaccessible net
Y escapó de nuestras manos
And it slipped from our hands
Eso que fue inevitablemente amor
That which was inevitably love
O simplemente un imposible.
Or simply an impossible thing.
Mientras duerme estoy
While I sleep I am
Pensando en lo de siempre
Thinking about the usual things
En que estará soñando ahora
What are you dreaming about now
Al fin y al cabo que mas da
After all, what does it matter
A ti.
To you.
