Career
Jurado began performing flamenco at a very young age, debuting on the big screen in 1962 with Los guerrilleros, acting alongside Manolo Escobar. She also played a main role in 1966's Proceso a una estrella and 1971's Una chica casi decente. While temporarily living in Argentina, the Spanish diva participated in a successful musical called La zapatera prodigiosa, based on Federico García Lorca's work. After teaming with composer Manuel Alejandro, Rocío Jurado became a major and beloved figure on the Latin music scene, acclaimed throughout America and Spain after releasing Muera el amor and Señora, among other hits.

y ese engaño en tu mirar,
que no quiero imaginar qué será
cuanto tú quieras de verdad,
si es verdad cómo será.
Mira, mil castillos por el aire,
por el aire levanté,
y en su piedra imaginé que engañé
que era el aire tu querer.
Sigue, sigue diciéndome mentiras,
mis castillos del aire
son de piedra en tu piel.
Tu cuerpo va acostumbrándome en el tiempo
y hasta he creído que fue cierto,
que no fuiste viento,
ni era yo papel.
Mira, son tan bellas tus mentiras,
y ese engaño en tu mirar,
que no quiero imaginar qué será
cuando tú quieras de verdad,
si es verdad cómo será.
In the song "Tus Mentiras" by Rocio Jurado, the singer is addressing her lover and telling him how beautiful his lies are. The way he deceives her with his eyes is so convincing that she doesn't want to think about what it would be like if he actually spoke the truth. She talks about how she built "mil castillos por el aire" (a thousand castles in the air) which symbolizes the dreams and fantasies she had with him. But in reality, those castles were nothing but lies and pretense. The singer is so enraptured by her lover's lies that she compares them to the air, which we can't see but can feel its presence. She says that she imagined those lies were the air that she breathed, so much so that she couldn't distinguish between his lies and reality.
As the song progresses, the singer reveals that her lover's lies have started to become a habit for her. She has started to believe that they were true, and her lover has become a part of her life. She even mentions that she thought he was not just a fleeting wind that could easily pass, but something more substantial, like a rock that can't be moved. The singer is so in love with her lover and that even though she knows that these lies are false, she can't help but believe in them.
Overall, the song "Tus Mentiras" by Rocio Jurado is a powerful ballad that talks about the seductive nature of lies and how they can easily wrap us in a web of deceit and illusion. The singer is trapped between the world of dreams and reality and can't differentiate between them. The song is a poignant reminder that sometimes we can get so absorbed in our fantasies that we don't see the truth that is staring us right in the face.
