Land Of 1000 Dances
Roy Orbison Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One, two, three!
One, two, three!
You gotta know how to pony like Bony Maronie
Mashed Potato, do the Alligator
Put your hands on your hips, let your back-bone slip
Do the Watusi, like my little Lucy
Na, na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na na.
Need somebody to help me say it one time
Na, na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na na.
You know I feel alright.
Feel pretty good y'all.

Na, na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na na.
Need somebody to help me say it one time
Na, na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na na.
Dance with me honey, like Long Tall Sally
Twistin' with Lucy, doin the Watusi
Gotta hold of your back, I like it like that

Do the Jerk, watch me work
Ah, do it!

That note he held for 19 seconds starting at the 3:00 mark was greatness! What a fantastic job by Roy.

@therealjoebloggs

People always joked about how Roy wasn't a rocker, just rockin' out and doin' duckwalks and all kinds of moves, and smilin' and lookin' like he's havin' fun-- well, he still ain't movin' much, but he's clearly rockin' out and smilin' and lookin' like he's havin' a LOTTA fun!

For a man who smoked at an early age to hold that note at the end so long is really great!!

If anyone is wondering this is October 3rd, 1972 at Festival Hall In Melbourne, Australia. Often mistaken as 1973 because it only went to air in Australia then. The backing band is The Art Movement, including Billy Dean on guitar, Terry Widlake on bass, Bob Munday on drums, Alan James on lead guitar, Alan Mayes on trumpet, Gordon Balmforth on keyboards, and Colin First on trumpet. The additional orchestra was local and added for this broadcast performance only :)
