Growing up in a musical family, Sam began singing in church at the age of five. By the time he was ten, Sam was already penning his own lyrics. Inspired by his sister who played the piano, he taught himself to play guitar, bass, piano, and drums. Sam was born a natural singer without any formal vocal coaching. His father, also a singer, is a big influence.
Sam draws his influences from such greats as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Eric Clapton, and Gavin DeGraw. He enjoys performing anything acoustic that has soul and is fond of rock, pop, soul, blues, jazz, and country music.
Sam has recently co-written with Jeff Scott Soto (former lead singer of the legendary rock band Journey, Talisman, Soul SirkUS, Yngwie Malmsteen). A few songs are to be released on Jeff’s new solo CD. This is what Jeff had to say about Sam: “Bro, you are the freshest new artist out there. I will be telling the world about you and if there is anything I can do to help you along, rest assured I will. People need to hear Sam Grow. You will be a superstar my friend!”
Sam has also performed with Grammy award winner Kanye West, Kat Parsons, one of the highest selling independent artists in the US, and national touring artist singer/songwriter/pianist Dave Yaden (Marc Broussard, Josh Kelley, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson).
Sam’s latest release “Ignition” is an infusion of Rock, Pop, and Soul that creates an enticing, new listening experience sure to satisfy the ear of a wide range audience. The first cut, “Oh So Jaded”, has become a crowd favorite. “Work in Progress”, Sam’s first CD release, is a five song EP full of Sam’s soulful, bluesy sound. The single “Meant to Be” was the featured track of the day on September 28, 2006 on GarageBand.com and the song peaked at 4.8 out of 5 stars.
This is just the start of Sam’s promising career and he has already started a buzz among the industry.

Been a good while since
You were sitting next to me
Had a loaded Silverado, lifted up console
Your hand on my knee
Yeah, I still got this damned old truck
But sitting here, that ain't good enough
My mind's a silver screen rollin' down memory lane
A square mile wide, can't ever drive by
Everywhere says your name
These seats are painted in everything we could have been
And every minute waiting on green
Got these Good Years stuck here in misery
These red lights are killing me
Wish it was over at goodbye
Come back 'cause I
Gotta check on mama and mail
I tried to avoid it, behind every door is
One of your long lost friends
And they always wanna talk about you
But damn this was my hometown too
And these red lights are killing me
My mind's a silver screen rollin' down memory lane
A square mile wide, can't ever drive by
Everywhere says your name
These seats are painted in everything we could have been
And every minute waiting on green
Got these Good Years stuck here in misery
These red lights are killing me
Sure, these red lights are killing me
My mind's a silver screen rollin' down memory lane
A square mile wide, can't ever drive by
Everywhere says your name
These seats are painted in everything we could have been
And every minute waiting on green
Got these Good Years stuck here in misery
These red lights are killing me
These red lights are killing me, yeah
"Red Lights" by Sam Grow is a heartfelt country song that explores themes of nostalgia, longing, and the difficulties of moving on from a past love. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the singer sitting alone in his truck, idling at red lights, as he reflects on his past relationship and the impact it continues to have on his life.
In the first verse, the singer reminisces about the times they used to spend together in his truck. He describes the Silverado, with its lifted console and her hand on his knee, symbolizing the intimacy and connection they shared. However, despite still having the truck, he realizes that it is not enough to fill the void left by her absence.
The chorus emphasizes the impact of the red lights on the singer's state of mind. The red lights become a metaphor for the memories and emotions that haunt him. His mind becomes a silver screen, constantly playing scenes from their past, and he cannot escape the thoughts of her. Everywhere he goes, he is reminded of her, as if her name is written on every corner.
In the second verse, the singer mentions his hometown and the difficulty of moving on. He has reasons to go back, such as checking on his mother and collecting mail, but each door he opens reveals another reminder of his past love. He encounters friends who also knew her, and they always bring up memories and stories about her, making it even harder for him to let go.
The chorus is repeated, emphasizing the toll that the red lights take on the singer's emotional state. He feels stuck in this cycle of longing and misery, unable to move forward. The seats of his truck symbolize the dreams and potential they had as a couple, now painted over in the reality of what they could have been. Every moment spent waiting for the green light, the signal to move on, feels like an eternity.
The song concludes with a reiteration of the chorus, emphasizing the profound impact of the red lights on the singer's emotions. They have become a constant reminder of what he has lost and the pain he continues to endure. Despite the passing of time, these red lights continue to torment him, highlighting the lingering effects of a love that is no longer present in his life.
Overall, "Red Lights" is a poignant and relatable song that captures the struggle of letting go and moving on from a past love. The lyrics beautifully convey the depth of the singer's emotions and the ongoing presence of memories that can make it difficult to find closure.
