The band's name is old German and means "Stillest Hour" or "Calmest Hour" and traces back to a quote by Friedrich Nietzsche, in which he refers to his deepest and calmest (and at the same time his most terrible) moments as the „Stillest Hour"...
The music of Stillste Stund has often been described as versatile, complex and progressive with many breaks, but on the other side it also has a lot of catchy elements. Stylistically, it might be classified best as Dark Wave mixed to Electro-Gothic with industrial and neo-classical influences as well as chamber music. The music combines electronic and acoustic elements with dark, music score-like atmospherical sounds, supported by expressive male and female vocals. The mood often swings from one extreme to another, sometimes melancholy, sometimes brutal, but always with a strong and intense impact.

Käfigseele
Stillste Stund Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sie schien ihr zu klein geraten.
Doch geschlossene Augen sahen Licht
und hinter letztem Vorhang Endlosigkeit warten.
Wohlbehütet in ihrem Käfig
Seit Wochen kein Wort gesprochen.
Kneif mich, schlag mich, schüttel mich wach
Doch dies Spielzeug scheint nun zerbochen.
The song "Käfigseele" by Stillste Stund speaks of a performer who felt confined on the stage that they were given, dreaming of a larger world beyond their cage (represented metaphorically as a tiny stage). However, despite the performer's yearning for freedom, their body is motionless and their voice is silent. The audience implore the performer to sing for them, but it seems as if a curse prevents them from doing so. The final lines of the song express the emptiness that the now-vacant cage creates in the hearts of those who once enjoyed the performer's music.
The song can be interpreted to be about the isolation and limitations of self-expression, particularly in the entertainment industry. The performer longs for more than what they have been given, but they are also trapped by their own body and circumstances. The audience, on the other hand, are both fascinated by and dependent on the performer's talents, leading them to feel lost and empty when those talents are no longer available to them. The use of animal imagery, with the performer being referred to as a bird in a cage, also contributes to the feeling of being trapped and powerless.

Diese Bühne reichte ihr nicht,
She felt that this stage was insufficient for her ambitions.
Sie schien ihr zu klein geraten.
She believed that the stage was too small for her talent.
Doch geschlossene Augen sahen Licht
But with her eyes closed, she saw the light of her potential.
und hinter letztem Vorhang Endlosigkeit warten.
And she knew that beyond the final curtain, there was endless opportunity.
Wohlbehütet in ihrem Käfig
Protected and sheltered in her cage,
Sollte sie für uns singen.
She was supposed to sing for us.
Von der weiten, weiten Welt
From the vast, wide world
Wie sie sie durch ihr Gitter sah.
As she saw it through the bars of her cage.
Doch es wird kein einzig Laut mehr
But there will be no sound coming
Aus dieser Kehle dringen.
From her throat anymore.
Liegt ihr Körper doch regungslos
Her body is lying motionless
Der Kopf überstreckt, die Augen so steif...
Her head stretched back, her eyes fixed and unseeing.
Komm, Vöglein, sing, sing, sing.
Come, little bird, sing, sing, sing.
Oh komm, Vöglein, sing, sing, sing!
Oh, come on little bird, sing, sing, sing!
Why won't you sing a song for us?
Es scheint mir wie ein Fluch.
It seems to me like a curse.
Ist dein Schmerz nicht gross genug?
Isn't your pain great enough?
Frag mich etwas, ich glaub ich habe
Ask me something, I don't think I've spoken
Seit Wochen kein Wort gesprochen.
A word in weeks.
Kneif mich, schlag mich, schüttel mich wach
Pinch me, hit me, shake me awake
And tell me how to feel.
Ich hab so gerne ihr gelauscht
I loved listening to her so much
Doch dies Spielzeug scheint nun zerbochen.
But this toy now seems broken.
So empty my being, just like the spot
Wo gestern noch ihr Käfig stand...
Where her cage stood just yesterday...
