HYBRID RAINBOW
The Pillows Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can you feel?
Can you feel that hybrid rainbow?

Can you feel?
Can you feel that hybrid rainbow?

Can you feel?
Can you feel that hybrid rainbow?
I can feel
I can feel that hybrid rainbow

Overall Meaning

The song HYBRID RAINBOW by the pillows tells the story of a group of people who feel like they are stranded on a desert island, with no hope of escape. The island is so small and insignificant that it doesn't even have a name and is not marked on any globe. The only ship that came close to the island yesterday was not there to rescue them, and they remain stranded, with dwindling hope. Despite this feeling of hopelessness, the group remains enamored by the beauty of the sun, even though it has caused their skin to burn. They wave their hands through a prism, hoping to catch a glimpse of a rainbow, knowing that it's a sign of hope.

The chorus of the song encourages listeners to feel the hybrid rainbow, to understand that even though they may feel ignored by the world, they still have a chance for a brighter tomorrow. The group feels like their flying ship has shrunk, and they're hovering only a few inches above the ground. They know that their appearance confuses others, and that birds are likely to peck at them. This is a metaphor for feeling out of place in the world, feeling like they don't belong anywhere. But they continue to hold onto hope, feeling that there is more to come.

That's the power of music. You have no idea what they're saying. But you can feel the raw emotion behind it.
