She first entered the Gospel scene in 1968, singing with The Edwin Hawkins Singers Choir's "Oh Happy Day." She, with her distinctive soprano and extensive vocal range, became better known as a featured soloist with then-husband Walter Hawkins' Love Center Choir.

While married to Bishop Walter Hawkins, the couple had two children a son, Walter "Jamie" Hawkins, Jr. and a daughter, Trystan Hawkins with one granddaughter, Jahve Hawkins and one grandson, Jamie Daniel Hawkins. Walter "Jamie" Hawkins, Jr. is married to Myiia "Sunny" Davis-Hawkins.

Tramaine has been inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame. Recently receiving the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award and netting two Stellar Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year and Traditional Female of the Year for her 2007 CD release I Never Lost My Praise (2007). She also sang at James Cleveland's funeral.

Hawkins lives outside of Sacramento, California with her husband, Tommy Richardson, Jr. of fifteen years and has one stepson, Demar Richardson with two step grandchildren.

I have worn my Soulful Celebration CD out--especially on this track! It is brilliantly arranged, vocally arranged, and sung by these amazing singers. Tramaine Hawkins sings this out of the ballpark. Kudos to Quincy Jones and all involved for giving us new things to hear.

Well thank you sister Tremaine a letter from home sometimes you just gotta go back home. I will never forget the look on your six face when he played this for me the first time! I’ve never seen somebody so absolutely gone over somebody like that in my life and I said I will not stop in my journey till I see it for myself. Heyday I was so impressed when I learned that the wonderful gift of God that you already had went and took voice lessons to get to the top of your game. And my sister I saw it all over the man you love so much! It was well worth it!! God is amazing. Sometimes you just gotta galvanize you know the way we always only had to do the grace and truth message under attack. Nobody teaches it to you. We pray together. We worship together. We ran the freeway together. We cried together. We fight together. We forgive together. We were older eyes and then we hugged each other. We were so ahead of the time that we are looking at now. I am ungrateful woman to know the ministry of the Hawkins and Matthews family. All the way back to the point to where allowance was a dollar a week and I bought a 45 in Los Angeles brother Henderson‘s record shop called all happy Day. I was in sixth grade and my mother was in the process of dying.

I listen to that song every morning before I went to school. As soon as homework was finished until I went to bed. I drove my poor uncle and aunt crazy. She said well why don’t we just play this when he’s at work will help you do your homework after he comes home and goes to bed because he worked really crazy hours. Who would know the guy was crafty a preacher a pastor teacher. God bless and keep you sis.❤😂🎉

It is so beautiful anointed and moving it's just beyond description people think a song has to be slow and laborious to be Spirit-filled. That is just not true. It's incredible.
