While studying, she performed with a variation of bands, such as the Fred-Herfter-Combo and the Stern-Combo Meissen.
1973 her first album was released with the band Panta Rhei, members of which later founded the band Karat, one of East Germany's most famous musical exports.
At the same year Veronika passed the exam for her studies as soloist for chanson and musical.
A year later she founded her own band: Veronika Fischer & Band.
Her first solo album was released 1975.
Her follow ups sold well in excess of 1.5 million(!), so that Venonika advanced to one of the most successful singers of the former East Germany
At the end of the 1970s she contributed towards two children's albums (Geschichtenlieder 1978 und Der Traumzauberbaum 1980).

Da war mir gar nicht klar
Wohin die Vögel gehn
Wenn kalt schon die Winde wehn
Der Vater lachte leis
Die fliehn vor Schnee und Eis
Die ziehn nach Süden
Um immer die Sonne zu sehn
Wollte ich fliegen
Das war mein allerschönster Traum
Hinter dem Hügel
Wuchsen mir Flügel
Um vor dem Winter abzuhaun
Abzuhaun
Und heimlich in der Nacht
Hab ich mich aufgemacht
Wollte nach Süden gehn
Um immer die Sonne zu sehn
So lief ich querfeldein
Wohl über Stock und Stein
Doch gar nicht weit hitnerm Haus
Da fiel schon der erste Schnee
Veronika Fischer's "Süden" is a beautiful and nostalgic song that speaks about the innocence of childhood and the longing for the warmth and brightness of the South. The first verse sets the stage for the rest of the song, where the singer recalls her childhood fascination with the migration of birds and their journey to the South to escape the harshness of winter. Her father tells her that they go to the South to always see the sun, creating a sense of wonder and admiration in the child. The chorus builds on this admiration, with the child expressing a desire to fly to the South, to escape winter's cold and see the sun.
In the second verse, the singer reveals that she attempted to run away to the South in secrecy, motivated by her childhood dreams. She runs through fields in the middle of the night, determined to follow her compass south for as long as she can. Unfortunately, her journey doesn't take her very far before the first snow falls, a sign that winter was quickly approaching. The song speaks to the power of imagination and our desire to believe in the impossible, even as adults. It's a beautiful reminder of childhood's innocence and the longing for warmth, hope, and adventure.

Der Vater lachte leis
My father chuckled softly
Die fliehn vor Schnee und Eis
They flee from snow and ice
Die ziehn nach Süden
They head to the South
Um immer die Sonne zu sehn
To always see the sun
Nach Süden, nach Süden
To the South, to the South

That was my most beautiful dream
